GPS - How do I use it?

#1 Post by Chooko »

All,

I have a CF-19CHBL2BM that I recently acquired. It decodes having a factory GPS, and it has the little block shaped antenna cover next to the hard drive bay. I have removed the screws and the wires underneath the cover are definitely connected to something inside the computer. How do I use this GPS? I don't see anything listed in device manager that looks like a GPS, and there are no programs in the start menu that look like a GPS program. The computer came with a trial version of Microsoft Street and Trips 2013, but I have not activated it because I cant seem to buy a product key from Microsoft. I can get the GPS configured to navigate in Street and Trips, but I don't see any other way to access it outside of Street and Trips.

Am I missing something here? How do I access the GPS? Is there another program that I need?

Also, any tricks for getting a product key for Street and Trips besides buying a copy on Ebay?

MS Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, SP1.

Thanks for any help.

Joe

Welcome to the ToughbookTalkForums!
Since you are using Windows, the MS Streets & Trips program you mentioned is the way to go regarding your unit. It's on com port 3 at 4800 baud. I'd get outside at first and fire up the program. She should find your location fairly quick. Although it has been discontinued, it will still work and you can find your location and lock in the satellites.
Here is a link to a great price on an older version of the Windows version of Streets & Trips:

Once you configure your comport and baud rate, you should be golden.

1. By the code (CF-19 CHetcBM) and defective memory (mine) you are running WinXP SP2 / 3, yes?
2. If you want to see the Leadtek or Sony working get a free copy of Winfast Navigator. It will give your location (LAT/LONG) and a stunning bunch of bars representing satellites. (sats) FYI your GPS is a LEADTEK or SONY.
3. Then you can figure out aboot S&T's or do something else. I suppose the thing most people want is to ...1.)know where they are....2.)find where they are going. Personal choice.
4. I'm a bit of an oddball...(watch it guys) I know where I am and I use GPS to pin-point fires and medical emergencies.

Find out what Shawn is using...he makes 80-100 mile deliveries. Cap'n Dogfish is your man offshore .....he's on NBR. He runs a dredge....multiple GPS. (or something):)

We might get carried away and ask what the readers are REALLY using GPS for. :hijacked:

Seems like a lot of MK1 CF-19 coming on line lately. What's that aboot?

If you have a question...PM.
