ALL CF-19's are suppose to be WWAN / WIFI ready from the factory. Meaning they have all the antennas needed, even if it is a federal model.

Really! Hmm.. so all they did was take out the WiFi/WWAN cards for federal? wierd - i thought they'd make it harder to put unauthorized cards in!

But I'm still curious why some models have full-length wings, others half (on the WWAN antennas only) while others like my mk5 have none.

You can physically put in card in, but you may run into a BIOS whitelist issue. I have seen other cards put in. Some work, some don't. Some you can cover the ID pin and it will work. The last one I opened up was a Federal CF-74. I added a compatible 5100 Intel card and it works fine. I got a second one to do soon.

Model Number:CF-74KCJDZAM
Description: No Wireless, WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40GHz, 13.3" XGA Touch, 160GB, 1GB, WinXP, Multi-drive, Smartcard, No Bluetooth

I have added to several units and out of all of them only one CF-50 didn't have the antennas and it didn't have antennas in it. But also it looked like someone else had been in there before on that one unit. All of the 19's and 18's I have had have had the Antennas.

For Federal use all you have to do is lock the bios and you are locked out. I think when you add a card you have to go to the bios to activate it.

I put 4965 cards in two Fed CF-19G. Bios picked it up with F9. F10 to save. They must be Canadian....no wings.

Off topic...what does "no absolute in bios" mean. Maybe I should look it up. :)

Absolute is for LoJack for Laptops. It's an embedded serial in the BIOS (I think) because on activation, even if you change the hard drive, the system is still supposedly able to communicate with the Absolute servers to locate your stolen laptop.

I had it for my CF-30 and previous CF-19. Not sure if I should put it on this one. It's an insurance thing - waste of money if you don't need it, a lifesaver when you do.

That is how absolute is suppose to work. Even if you put a new hard drive in it, or find all the tasks, kill them, and delete them it will pop up and re-install it's self from bios. The only way to stop it is to create dummy files so that the program "thinks" it is still installed.

It's more of a theft deterrent/simple recovery. Kinda like cars, if someone really wants it, they'll take it from you no matter what.
