well reboots are holding. seems if I go into the Bios thats when it looses the setting. Need to find a utility to read the Bios and save it and Hopefully upload it back.. unless someone knows of a utility to force the WWAN .. i found a c++ program that looks like it will do it but was unable to compile it. Programming is not my thing.. Maybe someone else can compile it for 32bit windows??

heres a direct link if someone can do this and doesn't want to create an account.

otherwise for those of you who can make get a datacard to show up in device manager, I am getting my instructions and files together for you :)

Hello everyone.
Please note. Here's the Disclaimer. Anything I suggest below is what worked for me. There is no guarantee it will work for you and if you blow up your PC or Modem or anything else. I am NOT responsible! :)

Now that that's out of the way.. Here's the assumptions that are made here:
You are using a CF-19 MK1(or 2 ) and you picked up a cheap HP Gobi1000 like I did

I am also assuming you are running Windows 7 (I am running 32bit) and you are setting up this Modem for GSM(UMTS/HSPDA/HSPA+) If you are trying to get it to run on VZW.. I believe this will work except for the one click software, you will want to use the VZW manager for HP Gobi1000 but I have not tested it nor has anyone reported to me if it works or not.

So... lets get on with this

I bought this one for 3.99 Shipped on ebay. Ofcourse after I bought it is when I discovered they are locked to only work with HP.. at least that's what I was told.

Image

I toss it into my CF-19 and nothing happened. I played with the Dip Switches. Nothing happened.

I thought I was done for. Then I pulled apart another device I have that has a m-pci datacard inside of it and installed it. nothing..... I was very irritated. Then, playing in the bios after the 4th or 5th reboot and playing with the dip switches. I then found WWAN Disabled! (this setting was NOT there before)

I enabled it and rebooted

Blammo. Windows is now trying to install devices! woohoo.. I did something right!.. so I shut the PC down and swapped the cards and rebooted

After 3 hours of trying to get it right .. Heres what I found for a cf-19 MK1 like mine.

install the card, dip 1+2 ON 3+4 off. STAY THE HECK OUT OF THE BIOS IF YOU DID MY SWAP TRICK!
reboot to windows.

install this HP file (Im running Windows 7 32bit)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ob-78066-1
I also mirrored the file here : http://neazcomms.net/files/sp44916.exe

Run the exe and if it does not auto install the driver for your card, then goto device manager, find the HP gobi1000, update driver, it should be C:\QUALCOMM\QCUSB-HP\DriverPackage\Qualcomm\Win32
once its installed it will look like this and this is a GREAT thing

Image

Now that you have it this far,

Thanks to a Utility built by Josh Perry, we have a Loader to activate the HP Gobi1000 for us (this should also work for the Gobi2000 also)

Next. Download and unzip my custom installer. http://neazcomms.net/files/HP_Gobi1000_Installer.zip

I will assume you have unzipped this to C:\HP_Gobi1000_Installer

open up an explorer window to C:\HP_Gobi1000_Installer
open the gobiloader folder
run gobiloader

once it runs, it will pause. You should see new devices loading into your machine.

This is loading basic firmware to get your pc to recognize your modem.

Next is a Generic app that can load firmware into the modem and do the connections.

back to explorer and open c:\HP_Gobi1000_Installer\one click internet and run the installer.exe file

I ran the defaults, selecting english etc. Once it comes up, goto settings, firmwares and I selected Generic UMTS (there are 2 of them on mine, I just selected the first one) It will hang up for a few (it is uploading new firmware to the modem) and if you already have your Simcard in the Sim slot, you should now see the modem attempting to grab onto a GSM provider.
go back into settings, go into profile, and setup your APN if you are not using T-Mobile

Now.. Heres what you need to now from this point on.

Your modem will not always be ready to go.. You will need to rerun gobiloader to wake it up after a reboot or possible sleep mode etc. Then just run one click and you are back in business. I actually created a folder in c:\programdata called gobi and copied the 2 gobiloader files there. then I created a batch file that runs from my desktop running that gobiloader first then opens oneclick.

This has worked well. but Its only been a few hours so we shall see.

I will update as I get more details.. I am looking for a cure for those toughbooks (such as mine) that do not show the WWAN on the bios page with the Gobi1000. Once I have that I will post it here as well.

OK because I don't sleep much :) I found a possible fix. at least I have a fix for my own PC if it decides to kick the WWAN from the bios.

I made a bootable thumbdrive with freedos on it and ran a bios program I came across that will allow you to backup and restore settings (really wanted that one for windows that needs to be compiled.)

Sure enough I play with my bios and it goes away.. I reboot with this drive and restore my backup and its back ! :)

so.. anyone want to try it? I'll give you a copy of my bios settings.. here's my bios info.

my system is a CF-19CHBAXBM
3 gigs ram
with Phoenix Technologies Ltd. V1.01L16, 12/27/2007
(if there is a newer bios, PLEASE tell me!)

BIOS 1.35.1 is the program I used
found it here http://www.bioscentral.com/misc/downloads.htm

Let me know!

(all this work for a 4 dollar data card lol )

Why not flash the gobi with a different / unlocked firmware? Is that possible? Fujitsu / Dell / whatever

From what I been reading it is not possible but if anyone comes up with that one, That would be easier.. We could buy cheap HP's and flash as Panasonic :) I can guarantee that others have looked into that one before..

At least for us who bought that cheap card thinking wow this will be great... There's a good change we can make that happen now :)

and I got GPS working from the Card as well.

http://netbook2chartplotter.blogspot.co ... e.html?m=1 is a reference site I started at.. but the Quick and dirty is below.

quick and simple steps.. create a folder, copy C:\Program Files\OneClickInternet\QCWWAN.DLL to that folder

Then download these 2 files and copy to same folder
http://www.mwconn.net/MWconnQC.dll
http://www.mwconn.net/MWqcgps.exe

Once those files are in a folder, make sure you have ran Gobiloader if needed to get the ports running and I ran one click until I saw carrier signal but didn't need to connect to the network.

From command prompt, in that folder you created run "MWqcgps 5" (no quotes)
You should start seeing NMEA info (leave open)

I used OziExplorer to test and it synced up setting up GPS on Com5 and it works :)
