Acquired a MK1. having issues with touch screen working

#1 Post by mobilemedic01 »

I acquired a MK1 from my work. Really like it. Its a CF-19CHBAXBM

I have upgraded the bios to the vista bios from the panasonic jp site. I have removed the bottom and tossed away the 512 meg ram chip i couldn't reach and move from 1.5 to 3 gigs of ram and have also removed the HD and replaced with a 120gig SSD I had here from my other laptop that isn't in use anymore.

I installed Windows 7 pro, and it identifies the PC as "Single Touch Input Available" on the Pen and Touch line of System properties.

I have installed the vista touch screen drivers and they installed just fine and i saw the change in device manager to match the panasonic driver.

I also installed the Panasonic Misc driver and followed this and that from various howto's i have found here on how to install windows 7.

Touch doesn't do anything.. Anyone else have this issue ever? have any ideas how to fix? drivers etc?

The touch screen is flawless so its not physically damaged and my boss said it worked for him on XP. When i booted the old HD (new bios installed) it didn't work but I assumed it was due to the new Bios?

so is it dead? anyways to test other than install Vista on a drive and try to get a stock 32 bit vista running with all the panasonic drivers?

Appreciate any ideas on this on how to test.

Thanks!

The time it takes to downgrade the bios back to xp, I would do it just to see for myself that it works. This is the only problem that many have with the CF-19MK1...dead touchscreen including myself :( .

1. Needs Vista bios......to run Windows 7.
2. LMDE 17 will work fine. Calibration will be slightly off...that's normal. SOLYDX is a good program.

Re-upgrading the bios may work magic.

Next question...who has a copy of the upgrade? All I am seeing is the downgrade.

BIOS V1.00L16 / EC V1.00L11 (Feb‚ 2008)
CF-19C/D/E(mk1)
CF-19[C/D]xxx[B/V]x (For XP Downgrade Model Only)
Windows Vista -> Windows XP See this line...you need Windows XP -> Vista
What bios and ec are you showing now? <<<<<<<

so for what ever reasons after all my experiments with my data card.. my touchscreen has decided to work... But the calibration is WAY off ofcourse..

the arrow goes up and down but is slammed all the way to the left no matter where I am on the screen but does track up and down properly.

I tried the windows calibration app. it works but doesn't make any changes.

I have the touch driver for the MK3 installed and used its calibration app. it fails.

Any ideas?

If it works up-down but is stuck at the side, it is almost certainly a bad touchscreen. Only other (remote) possibility is a bit of dirt stuck under the edge of the touchscreen. Take a thin strip of plastic like a slice from an old credit card or soda bottle and *gently* run it around the edge of the screen to sweep out any particles that may be stuck under the edge.

Jeff (Sadlmkr) is very experienced at repairing/replacing touchscreens . . . .

1. Split the lid.
2. Look at the adhesive from the back of the bezel. For rocks or oatmeal cookie crumbs.
3. Re-connect and TAPE the connector.

Rinse and repeat. :D

Then put a new touch panel in there.
