Slow WiFi on CF-31

#1 Post by phirephoto »

So CF-31, Windows 10... Gigabit internet (I get over 900mbps on my desktop, wired connection). 5Ghz A/N network, WPA2-PSK [AES]. But I'm lucky if I get 17/20 Mbps. Am I missing something? Running the latest drivers I can find (2015!) intel centrino n 6200 AGN from 4/30/2015.

Oh, darn. Is there a better alternative? Any recommendations for an expresscard wifi or pc card wifi? Would prefer one that allows the door to close so I don't have to open the door / insert to use it... :)

For great wifi speed you need to sacrifice bluetooth.
A third antenna on a 3 antenna card makes a huge difference.
Cheap route is Intel 6300. Bluetooth MIGHT work.

General 2 antenna card I have used an Intel 7260AC version. Bluetooth wont work.
Azurewave (Broadcom) CE123 is a good 2 antenna 802.11AC card. Bluetooth wont work.

My daily driver CF 52S (mk4) has a Azurewave CE123H 802.11AC in it with 2 stock antennas.

It does "ok" at 585mbps. :D :clapping: :D

7260AC is what I'd use :) or 8260 like my 54 MK2 has :)

The Intel 8260 is M2 interface only. That would require an adapter and a bit of fiddling to make it work. Adapting would include the antenna leads also. Not impossible but not plug and play either.

If you are the paranoid tinfoil hat type, here is a bit of info for you.
The Broadcom CE123H does not have the security issues that Intel cards might have. Every ex US military Toughbook that I have owned has had some version of a Broadcom or Atheros card in it as part of the original build specs. They never have Intel cards.

Intel does have more extensive drivers that are much easier to find. The Intel card also may be easier(cheaper) to find. At this point in time they are both pretty cheap compared to a 3rx-3tx Broadcom card. Those will set you back $40.

I will look in my WIFI card bin and see what I have.

I checked your other posts.
You have a CF-31ATAAX2M. That is a mk1 and they have a dedicated bluetooth board. So you might NOT lose bluetooth afterall.

I do have an assortment of better wifi cards.
