CF-31 - Anyone have a Mk5 service manual - or any other useful info?

#1 Post by rjenkins »

Hi all,

I've just acquired a CF-31 Mk5.
i5-5300U CPU, 8GB RAM (as a single module), 500GB Drive, [resistive]touchscreen,

According to the model number breakdown etc. it originally had a backlit keyboard and GOBI5000 card but not as I got it.

I have a Toughbook GOBI3000 I picked up a few years ago and which was supposed to be for a CF-31, but they are now using a different form factor, M2 style rather than mini PCI.. doh..

The machine is generally very clean and works well, but has signs of fine sand or mud in some places, like the drive bay door, outside the seals.

I'm looking for a service manual for this to find out exactly what's what and where inside it, rather than start taking it apart for the sake of it..
I'm particularly curious about the airflow path and what coudl get clogged in that, as that's something new to me with toughbooks - my CF-30, CF-19 & others did not have fans.

Any info appreciated!

RJ.

Yes, MK5 CF-31's are the newest to date and the GOBI 5000 is the EM7355 - smaller chip, not the MC7355 larger chip!

Enjoy! :)

Rob (or anyone) - Help!

I've just received a CF-31 fingerprint module and tried to install it.

Your photos appear to be the only ones in existence showing the fingerprint cable to the internal connector, centre front - but there is just an empty space there in my machine, no connector.

Any clues?

Hi,
that is useful, thanks - but it still appears to use a connector below the mousepad, which does not exist in my machine...

Edit - searching for the part number from the manual you provided, I found this:
https://ruggeddepot.com/cf-wfp311r-retr ... sonic-oem/

No other place seems to distinguish between the Mk5 and earlier versions - and Mk5's are available with a fingerprint reader. It must be a different kit with a different interface, or they provide a replacement for the bid multifunction cable as well.

Cable looks different also.
An older cable will probably not work.
Might need to buy the proper mk5 cable from Heartland.

If it was mine, I would add the needed socket, but I have a hot air station and all of the
needed equipment to attempt it. Still tricky soldering a flexible cable. Low temp paste solder and hot air are a must.

Can you read any numbers off that cable?
