CF 31 refinish

#1 Post by Shawn »

I was going to do my CF 31 in black, but the paint job just went wrong every time I tried.
So I made a construction site edition instead.
The paint looks just like the safety neon yellow/ green. Trimming it in black really makes it stand out. I left the front bezel silver for now. I may do it in the yellow/green also. I need to visualize it for a while.
Now I need to install the SSD and Fingerprint reader. GPS is in and working.

I need to dye my custom leather badge black before I attach it.

wow, such neon
how about painting the bezel/bone black and adding some glow-in-the-dark finish to the yellow part?

Painting the bezel flat black is interesting. That might look better than the yellow or the silver
I will have to check into glow in the dark paints. Wonder what effect it would have on the yellow? As far as I know glow in the dark paints are not really clear and they don't have any shine to them.
I really like the current color and do not want anything that would change it.
Maybe a coating of glow in the dark on the dogbone badge..It would not affect the black much.

That certainly does stand out. What kind of paint do you use? My CF-31 looks a little shabby and I'd like to spruce it up a little. I'm just worried about it scraping off easily.

The secret to painting is the prep work. I just use good quality spray cans.

Lightly sand the lid with about a 240 grit sandpaper. You don't want to remove the powder coat, just rough it up a bit.
Wipe off the dust with a clean, dry terry cloth rag.
Then I spray a coat of color.
Let it dry for 20 minutes.
Then I finish it off with a coat of clear.

Let it fully cure/dry for 2-3 days before putting it back into use.

Here's a photo showing the color matched handle. I did the bottom half in black.
It really will need the screen bezel painted.

Wow.
I took Karl's advice.
I mask off the touchscreen panel first.
Then I applied a coat of fine texture black followed by a coat of clear.
It looks fantastic. I did not realize how much I dislike the silver bezels until now.

Lovely.

Now two-tone the dog-bone.........yellow in the low spots around the raised letters. :)
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
I chose to NOT be organized.
