CF-31S Super Multi Drive Question

#1 Post by nmbushek »

WOOHOOO..

My employer finally bought me and I just received a new CF-31S(MK3).....WOOHOO....It only took 3 years of begging and threatening...LOL

Now to the root of the guestion.....Being that they didn't order the exact part number, the 31 did not come with a DVD Super Multi-Drive.......BOOOOOOOOO, but they did get me the media bay battery though.......HMMMMMMMM....maybe they figured I couldn't use both at the same time, which is not possible or cannot be done that I know of, so that might explain why in their infinite wisdom not to get the DVD drive.

I have been researching and have discovered that there are 2 different model numbers for the necessary DVD drive that will be acquired ASAP come h-e -double hockey sticks or high water.

The 2 different part numbers for the DVD drive are:

CF-VDM311U
CF-VDM312U

If possible, any info someone might be willing to provide me on the differences between the 2 part numbers and which one should be obtained for this BRAND SPANKING new TB31 would be VERY much appreciated.

Thank you for your time and have a great weekend.

Nick

Well they both fit the 31 so I would say one is just a newer model.

Toughasnails

Thank you very much for the info sir

I sure am glad you were able to confirm my initial thoughts on this topic.

It appears that the CF-VDM311U is more readily available and can be obtained for much cheaper than the CF-VDM312U.

I figured I would ask the experts out there before making a foolish and expensive mistake.....wheeeew

Thanks again for your time and continued assistance sir, it is very much appreciated.

Take care and have a great weekend.

I can not see Panasonic making one only fit a MK1 or 2 and the newer one only fit a MK3. I know on the CF-30 it has a few different models but they fit all the MK's.

Check out this Panasonic page http://www.panasonic.com/business/tough ... upport.asp I have used this in the past, you have live chat, email or phone and they should be able to tell you for sure

Toughasnails....

Thank you once again so VERY much for you time and continued assistance sir.

I will follow the above link that you graciously provided. Once I get a definite answer on the 2 different parts numbers, I will post the info for any new or existing users info, if you would like.

I am currently in talks(PM) with Mr. Rob to try to get hold of price and availability for my needed 31 accessories.

Thanks again and it is a pleasure to be contact with and assisted by such a great group of people that all share the TB lifestyle.

Have a great weekend sir

All,

I just contacted Panny's Tech Support by phone, as suggested by toughasnails, below is the answer they gave me on this topic:

For the DVD Super Multi Drive

The CF-VDM311U will not work on the 31MK3, only works on the CF-31Mk1 and CF-31Mk2 machines

For CF-31MK3 and machines the CF-VDM312U must be utilized

Sure hope that they weren't just saying this to make more money because the 312U seems to be more expensive than the 311U.

Just want to get this info to the any/all users.

Thanks for your time and have a great evening.

Nick
