CF-31mk2 memory upgrade 4 or 8Gb?

#1 Post by alcamar1 »

Hi new to this forum, I want to start up grading my new ToughBook with an upgrade to the memory on my CF31 mk2 from the stock 2Gb, I thought I saw a note somewhere on the web (but can"t find it again),that said the Toughbook would not see/use more than 4Gb of memory unless you had the 64bit version of windows 7, is this true? I would like to fully upgrade to 8Gb, but don't want to spend the cash if it will only see 4Gb on the Windows 7Pro 32bit version. My model is the CF31Q5AAX1M

Also, where is the best (service & price) vendor site to buy other upgrades I want to do, like:

InfoCase Sling 31 Case CF-TBC31CASE-P
Panasonic DVD Super MULTI Drive CF-VDM311U
Panasonic Media Bay 2nd Battery CF-VZSU1431U
Panasonic Long Life Lithium Ion Battery Pack CF-VZSU46AU
LIND Car Adapter 120W CF-LNDDC120

also a good GPS kit aftermarket or Factory if it can be done without sending it away for service.

I saw some on Ebay but don't know what vendors to trust.

Thanks in advance for any input,
CF-31 mk2 ToughBook, 320Gb 7200 rpm hdd, Win 8 Pro, Upgrades = 8Gb Ram, Super Multi Drive, Desktop Dock, Media bay battery, Emissive Keyboard, 128Gb SDHC.
More upgrades to follow, ie. GPS, USB 3.0 PCMCIA card & SSD.
JT-B1 ToughPad, WiFi, Android 4.0 powered, 16 Gig RAM, 32Gig SDHC

It's not just the toughbook that will see 4 GB of ram. It's a 32 bit operating system limitation. I have 4 computer right now with windows 7 and 4gb of ram, gaming, multi-tasking, office. Etc. It hasn't run out of ram for that yet.

Rob or toughasnails can help you with that. Rob works for Rugged Depot and most likely has what you want in stock.

I haven't test out the factory GPS on a 31 so I can't really say on that. I do have CF-29 and CF-30 with customtoughbooks GPS unit and it works very well.

Thanks for the reply, I checked out "customtoughbooks" GPS kits & that looks like the way to go, I just need to research, and find the difference in the two different versions (SiRF Star IV vs. Ublox 6 ), and which may be better for my use, & location. :)

I really enjoyed fixing, moding & rebuilding my old CF-27, but upgrading to my new CF-31 mk2 is like Christmas to me, thanks again for the help. :)
