DEll XFR E6400 Rugged Laptop

#1 Post by teo »

I am browsing on ebay and then I came across this laptop. Its a DEll XFR E6400 Rugged Laptop. I am curious about how they built this unit and it has a good specs too based upon on googling. It has also a multiple expansion slot for camera, GPS, and almost everything.

Due to my triger happy finger, I haven't realized that I already bought it, What the heck! What do you guys think of it.

Boy Teo...broke the bank on that one :lauging: kidding, that was a good buy since a new one is over $5000.00 . From what I have read they are not as tough as Dell says or at least that is what some of the owners say. I do like the looks of them for sure.

For someone that turns down $600 deals on cf-30's as too high of a price ,to go spend 1K on a laptop you must really like it :)

Anyways looked at these before, there are several main dell rugged sellers, one in the UK that sells these barebones and another us based seller that has a ton of new parts for these

These are fully upgradable even the processers

Looks like you got a great deal , this is one of the newer models, and it has great specs

Let us know how the screen compares to the cf-30

Here's an info link

Why can't you just compare it to a CF-31 like I have??? :) :D

haha.

And, FWIW before you give me crap: I ended up paying $535 for the upgrade to the CF-31. I paid $400 for the machine + $135 on the GOBI card :)

Update: I've just got my new toy an hour ago, picked it up at the postal office coz I have work today and missed the delivery guy. I say, its awesome in term of ruggedness. I am installing windows seven as of the moment. Inspected all the port. It has an HDMI too with discrete graphics. Its faster than CF-30. I'd say amost double the speed and its upgradeable to P9700 cpu. It has a builtin camera and mic. which is perfect for SKYPE with my Brod and Sis. I don't know yet if the gps and bluetooth is present coz on the bios page, Dell has different setup. I am now downloading all the necessary drivers from Dell and see what come up. It has a few unknown device on the device manager. It has also a builtin WWAN. Confirmed already on the Dev. manger. I will give more deatail when its done.

Edit: Its damm.. good all the option was there, gps, bt, finger print reader but the previous owner changed the palmrest covering and the F. reader was covered, so its hide underneath and I discovered it coz it has detected on device manager. I pry it up a bit to see and its there.

Ok! Its up and running like a champ. It has 14"W touchscreen(LED backlight at 1,000nit), BT,GPS,FT,DVD-Rw(sata) which prolly can upgrade to Blueray, Backlit keyboard, touchpad and pointstick, webcam and Mic., HDMI port, 4 usb port, e sata port, broadband with sim slot(installed goobi 2000 and its working with gps, need only to avtivate with courier) and etc.. It has a Vram up to 1575Mb(1.5GB). Happy with my purchased and will be a replacement to my desktop. The cosmetic is very nice with a misssing DC port cover only. Also I need to trim the palmrest cover to reveal the Ft reader. Here is the initial photo:
