First SSD failure

#1 Post by ADOR »

Finally had my first SSD failure. It's a Intel x25 G2 80 gb that was a boot/OS (windows 7) drive in my Gaming desktop (in a Voodoo Hexx case) Using a AMD FM2+ motherboard and A10-6800K cpu. I had added a dedicated 650ti to it and it played great.

A few months back it stopped booting correctly and after trouble shooting I thought something may of been wrong with 650ti card so I put another one in. Then next month had a few issue so I just thought the OS needed a refresh so I reloaded windows 7 Pro 64bit. That "fixed" it for about another month. This time home it would start to boot then that was it. It wouldn't go past the windows 7 splash screen. Running a few tests it said the drive was bad. I dropped my 960gb samsung SSD from my CF-19 Mk5 into it and with windows 10 it booted fine. Swapped some drivers.

Now I am trying to do some testing of that drive in a external enclosure. Some folders work fine, others don't. We will just see how it goes and if I can see how long it shows it ran, etc. It works for a little bit then locks up. IF I can't get my data off I will try to see if a Reformat will take.

I was able to get some 1mb to 15 mb files off but anything larger locked up. It took a reformat and is not going on and off like it was.

Here is what crystal disk info came up with. The intel SSD toolbox will no longer see it as a SSD intel drive.

Total host writes 37530 GB

Power on counts 4372

Power on Hours 10042

Health status is now "unknown" 100%

I have the intel ssd tool box that will show other hardrives even if it's not a intel ssd. That drive won't show up at all. I tried this on my Alienware M11x R1 and my CF-19 Mk3. Still no go. I am loading it up and taking it to work with me. (I leave out today) then I am going to run a stress test and a few other test on it. I don't think I will trust it as a OS drive any more. But may just keep it as a movie drive. Just load it up and watch movies and play music off of it for the rest of it's useful life. I got a few hardrives that are "retired" like that. lol
