obd2 stuff

#1 Post by Mxx20 »

I know some of you guys here either work on or with cars, trucks, etc, etc. I work on medium and heavy duty mainly. But recently we've been seeing more light duty, including our parts vehicle's. So since my company wont get something for them I started doing some digging and seeing what was out there. I know guys with the matco maximus 2.0, some with snapons. All with mixed emotions. So snapon gave me a deal I couldn't refuse on a snapon verdict, came with the meter/scope and hook up. All wireless. Updated to 17.4 and a quick tool, but I am unsure on use for me but the cost I couldn't refuse. But the matco does everything(for an extra 4000 or so). Got a demo of it today to play with and I'm torn. The snapon is XP embedded, the matco is android. What's everyone else using?

For just basic code scanning I have a bluetooth scanner from ebay. (most comes with software disks if they are china based. Some of it is free scanning software, the rest is hacked complete with keygen so you know you are getting it from a quality person, lol)

My other tool is a usb scanner and it was used from scantool.net. They have different levels. Mine is a basic one with a slight upgrade. The software evenworks with the bluetooth scanner. The elm327 units on ebay are cheap, like under 5 bucks cheap. Good basic scanner.

Are you looking for a scanner or a programmer?

With the ones I have I can scan for codes, clear codes and even log to see how it runs.

I usually use the pc based one, I can use the bluetooth scanner on my phone as well but with the last update of the program I was using they took most of the "free" part out and won't even give you anything past what the code number is. So I just deleted it.

Trying to figure out. Normally we dont do the light stuff, but the times are changing. So far since i got it several uses, tinker, play around. I saw the ELM ones, some PC based ones, never could make my mind up or determine what would get the best bang for what im doing. Its tough going from OEM software to the others but im starting to adjust some. Still trying to get my work to buy one... But that will never happen lol
