As of last night her interior is redone on the comet (except the headlinner, have to wait till a new windshield is put in for that one. And she has decided on what color she wants the body. A burnt copper color.

Later last night I wheeled (pulled then pushed, lol) the 4x4 into the shop. The brakes needed attention so I started pulling the dryrotted 31" all terrains off one by one then cleaning the brakes. The right rear drum was mis adjusted. It was dragging bad and had a very large dirt dobber nest in it wasn't helping it roll in the shop with 4 people pushing it. I got one more to go then I will have all of them changed out. I will be checking brake lines, gas lines, etc getting it ready to fire back up. I think the 2150 2v motorcraft carb is bad so I will swap to a 350cfm Holley 2v I have. If that doesn't work I will be dropping the 4v intake onto it and going from there.

Later stuff will be swapping out the bad headlight switch, cleaning the square aluminum tank in the bed, installing the 8,000 lbs warn winch, install tow bar from my old 93 ford pu I sold, swapping the grill for the non for logo grill and then deciding how much lift and how I want to do it. I was thinking of combining a 1" body lift with 2 to 2.5" front leveling springs or spacers. The cheapest way to do that would be get the spacers (40 to 55 bucks) or go to the junk yard and from a 2wd f250 get those front springs. They will lift a 4x4 from 2 to 2.5" in the front. The rear has good clearance but I will have to check for bottom out. I didn't want to go over 1" on the body lift if I even do that. Will just have to see.

I see now they have a rubbery temp paint that can stay on or you just take it off later if you want too. Thinking some loud color orange, yellow or lime green, lol.

Junk yard victory today. I finally dug deep enough to the engine to get the F4TE roller cam for the 52 ford. On the dyno with GT40 heads they are know to get right at or over 300 hp on a 302.

Thought I was going to have the 4x4 up and running, but it's running but not with the holley carb. I am going to swap out 2v bases tomorrow as something must be stopped up as only one side was delivering gas. It ran fine as long as I kept the gas going to it. I would of know that yesterday but none of the 4 parts houses in town had a 351m fuel pump in stock. I when though all the fuel lines replacing and cleaning out as need yesterday.

I did come up with a way to fix the dip stick tube for cheap. When I got the 4x4 years ago the dip stick tube was half gone and they had put a rubber hose to repair one section of it. It had a speedometer cable with black tape as a dip stick.

Image20160428_175122 by Safjist Nipnog, on Flickr

I took a mini tube cutter and cut the damaged section off leaving about 4 inches of the original tube left. After making sure it was 3/8" tube I got some of the gas line I had and cut and bent a section leaving it a little long. Then used a stainless compression fitting I had I joined them together. I cut a little off to make the dipstick I had work. The dipstick I still too long as it goes nearly to the bottom of the oil pan, but at least now I can see what is in it. After I run the truck some to let the temp oil circulate I am going to drain it, fill it with the proper amount, then mark the stick and see if I have a shorter stick that is closer. If not I will just have to make a new mark on that stick.

I probably need to make a brace from the engine as well.

Yes, you need a brace or it will crack, break or vibrate out. Been there.

Out in the shop today. Only one side of the 2v carb is dripping gas, not spraying at all. Time to swap to the old 2v body I have with those new parts I used. Then try/try again.

Took two and made one, It then sounded like the spark was weak, and yes it was. I put on a spare ignition box and got the same thing. Then I swapped to the Accel coil I had put up and it finally fired up but then kept sounding like it was running out of gas. Called it quits for tonight on the 4x4. I think tomorrow it's getting either a MSD box or a Mallory one and that will be the end of any weak spark. Now to get get this fuel delivery problem solved and the rest will sort it's self out in time.

Yep part of my problem was weak spark. Today after doing some yard work and starting draining the pool to get it ready for summer I went though my all of my CD box and pulled them all out. Seen the Jacobs electronics box I had for got about complete with wiring harness and ultra coil. I decided that was the one to use. I had to do a lot of digging to find instructions for that unit to go to a duraspark ignition. I cut, spliced routed then went to fire it up. It had no spark at all. Was pissed and was going to cut it out and drop in the MSD box. The it hit me. There is a wire you have to ground out or the anti theft won't let it run. I pulled the spark plug wire off again and dropped old plug in it to see what it looked like. It cranked on 7 cyls and the spark was great. Right now I am still having carb issue. It runs then seems it running out of gas. It' a new fuel pump so I know that isn't a issue. I will have to check it out internally again.

I wonder if a new coil would fix my weak "spark" Others have tried a swift kick in the rear, but that failed.

I have replaced Motorcraft 2bbl's with Holley 2bbl's in the past. 350cfm and 500cfm. They worked great for me.

On a lot of my stuff I have been collecting parts for years for when I finally did get to do what I wanted to my cars. Jacobs can sometimes be had cheap because people have seemed to have forgot them. Everyone wants MSD, etc. I think I paid 50 to 60 bucks for the box, coil and harness. I have got mallory and Accel distributors as cheap as 5 bucks before.

Still playing with this. Got a pile of old toughbooks with me loading out "outdated" software on old 98/2000/xp OS's to see if I can get them to work. One computer is a Holley Pro-jection MPI and the other is a Commander 950. I did get this done on the truck before I left. I did get the glove box I made out of wood installed. Got to take a picture of it.
