I got a guy at work that has decided he wants a non toughbook. I think I am going to look at a latitude used, i5/i7 etc. Are there any models to really stay away from? I seen a few newer ones I didn't recognize.

My 2 cents for Dell are 630, 640, and the 6500. They might be old but the are sturdy and perform nicely. I also use a 6510 which is a I5 and the twin to it look a stomping but still functions. It's impractical to use any more from the damage, but it's still kicking.

I'll agree with the Dell D630 T9300 with the updated LCD panel, it runs Windows 7 very well. I find most machines with a Core 2 Duo that show an "Average CPU Mark" score above 1000 or better on Passmark (http://www.cpubenchmark.net) are fine for all our basic needs.

I'm running an E6410 Core i5 nowadays, mainly as I need the extra speed for encoding. They have become very cheap in the last 18 months.
