The problem is that when I put any 2gb stick into the machine. It does not boot. Not even to bios. Not to blue screen anything. It just sits there being annoying.

Well I see there are two different versions of the D430. The early one has 1.2 GHZ core 2 duo, the later model 1.33 Core 2 duo. Not sure if they changed anything else hardware wise on them.

Reading more on D430's I see that they have a 945gms chipset and I see several references of them being locked down by either chipset or dell bios to 2gb. I see some have said that they got 2.5 gb to reconize on a D420.

One possibility is the drivers I use. For general loads I have a 945 chipset driver for windows 7. As long as the pc took that I wouldn't of downloaded the one from dell.

Yup that's what I have read. 2gb max. But that's ok no biggie. Working well enuff. Thinking of using a ssd instead of the hdd that is in it now.
