Walkabout HH3

#1 Post by ares93 »

Now that i accidentally wandered back here, I might as well as the rugged computer experts if anyone knows where i can get drivers, or hell, even a battery for this thing.

Bought it from a fellow ham who said it was a tank but didn't have a charger or working batteries for it. Works fine, the single battery even seems to hold a bit of a charge. Just wanted to though in another HDD, some extra ram and install XP. But the drivers cant be found anywhere. I cant even disassemble the bloody thing.

Found both of those, most of the drivers are for the P233. The first DRS link is dead as you said, and the second doesnt have anything relevant to the Hammerhead. I guess i waited for too long, all links are dead. But thanks for the help, mate.

I know there is an ebay seller for this, but i want to avoid spending 30 bucks on a set of drivers for an obsolete machine.

Is a user guide any good to you? I found this so far, I see several "sketchy download" places claiming they have them.

http://www.srs.fs.usda.gov/fia/data_acq ... sguide.pdf

I see one listing of it that is has a 400 Mhz Pentium 3 CPU and only 256 mb of ram

What is your budget and is the one you have complete?

With that unit being that old, You can score a ARMOR x7 tablet on ebay right now for under 100 bucks(in the states) that includes windows 7, a SSD and 2gb of ram, atom processor on a ready to go unit. I see most if not all of these tablets have GPS also. Some for 60 and 66 bucks shipped (state side)

Thanks. Well complete and complete, the charger is a hack job, but it works. Got the carry case, digitizer pen one battery and a dummy battery.

It works and its fully usable with the original HDD, i just wanted something bigger and faster. If i can figure out how to disassemble it, i might just be able to add a 512mb module.

Its not really a budget issue, i can get something far better if i need to, but i dont. All i really want for this thing to do is run XP and the daily build of CHIRP. For that, i think the rest is overkill. The Armor is a great idea but i have a working system alread if i can get the drivers sorted.

Problem solved i think. I scoured the drive for wacom drivers and found a release note. Checked the folder windows search found and some kind soul left a folder with all the installation files for every driver. I don't know why he put it in the WINNT/system32/drivers folder instead of My documents or C: root where everyone else leave them. But i think i found em.

Gonna check em out, ZIP em together and upload them, just so the next poor bastard doesn't have to go through what i did.

EDIT: XP was a bust, drivers were barely compatible and worked very poorly. I'm going back to Win2K on this thing. But you were onto something about that Armor X7, looked at the specs and with some work, i could use an X7 to replace three different devices. A lot less to lug around. And more tough.

While reading after the specs I only seen 98 or 2000 listed on it. But I wasn't sure how old that document was.

I only knew about the X7 because of some searching and talking to another about that tablet before, figured I would post it up.

As a rule of thumb, everything that works with 2k works with XP. However the issue in this case are the drivers, which are far older than the "xp upgrade era". Now if DSR would still supply users with the newest available drivers, I'm sure XP would be no problem. This way, I'm gonna stay with 2k.

Also, i decided to pull the trigger on that X7. Gonna keep this HH3 to play around with. But CHIRP didn't really want to play ball either, so my only proper use for the HH3 was a bust.
