Spring's right. The 2001 was a 2,000 purchase 5 years ago. The frames bent on both sides right at the rear most leaf spring mount. The front side of those mounts. It's also so katty whaumpus that it rides dog legged down the road. The electric windows gave up the ghost this year. I did get the defroster/heater to half way work this winter and the AC to blow cold this summer. But I'm at the point that this 2000 dollar beater is just done for. So I'm in the market for a 80 or older full size truck, elcomino, rancherro. CORROBORATED not injected. Don't care if it's 6 or 8 cyl. As long as it blows cold in summer and hot in winter. Ugly IS a selling point for me.

Fun thread, thanks.:)

I always wondered how to spell katty whaumpus.

Oh, you understand carburetors. Good show.

My 76 is running a 2-barrel off of a wrecked 75. Smog?

2-barrel DOUBLED mpg on a 360/390 block.

El Camino/Ranchero?....why not buy a truck? :boing:

The garbage truck is a freakin F550. I WANT that truck.

My F350 is squatting a bit with 250 gallons of water.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
I chose to NOT be organized.

If your F350 squats with 250 gallons, you probably need spring work.
I have seen guys around here take a F650 diesel or same size Chivy and put a dually pickup bed on it..Pretty sweet looking..

Actually thinking about resurrecting the 79. She has a 351 mod 400. With a 2bbl carb. Wanting to KEEP it a 2bbl. Short wheel base and beds rotted to uselessness. Thinking I might make a few calls this week and try to build the title. Mechanics lean does wonderful things. Actually thinking about NOT washing all the tree grunge and crap off her too. The bed from the 2001 is bent all to heck so plan to plank myself one. Hmmmnnnnn....... Think I might just measure the mounts from the 01 cab and compare............. Might save a title effort.

Why do you want to keep it 2v? if you are looking for gas millage out of that you need to go 4v.. The 2v carb has larger ventries and ports on the primary to compensate to having to work at higher rpm with no extra. If you get say a 500cfm edelbrock it will have smaller primary and as long as you don't get your foot into it too keep the secondary's closed and run 3.5 to 4.5 psi on the carb you will use less gas just bumping around town. Unchoking the exhaust and other little tricks can help as well.

My 4x4 combo is 3.50 gears, 31" Tall tires with C6 and 351M in a 1980 4x4 chassis with 86 cab and what ever year flair side bed I found is.

I have my edelbrock 4v intake and carb but not installed yet. As soon as I get a change I am getting a small cam and headers. It should get good gas millage. 2100 rpm at around 55 MPH.

I think I have an old 650cfm holly double pumper out in the shed if I care to fight the wasps, widows and birds that live out there now. I just don't want to be bothered with either tuneing with an adaptor plate inline or changing the intake out. If I was at all worried about gas mileage it would definitely not have the 351/400 on it. This thing was going to be a mudder, but I saved her and she's been sitting out back ever since.

Mine WAS a mudder. It has 35" thornbirds 14.5" wide, no lift, no pickup bed except the rusty hunks still hold on to the bolts, the original gas tank was gone but some of the straps were there, 60's chevy gas tank behind the seat. No doors, black paint, green spray painted flames. The 1980 pickup cab was so bad the corners of the cab was rusted off. The rear break line was rusted in half so it did great burn outs. I had seen it a couple of months before I got it. They had just rebuilt the front end. They just ran it as a woods machine. Then it died on them they dropped new plugs, plug wires, cap, etc and still couldn't get it to run. I got it for 300 bucks.

After getting it home I started trouble shooting it. It turns out the distributor gear was busted. More digging found a piece sheared off in the oil pump and that locked up the pump, then that stopped the distributor from turning until the gear busted, for some reason it busted the gear and didn't shear the pin.

New oilpump into it and timing chain and it was stripped to frame and engine. A couple of months later I found a 86 cab with title and swapped it all. Then about 2 years after that I got the pickup bed I wanted finally, the flair side bed.

Well I'm actually thinking about ripping the cab off the 79 frame and dropping the 01 cab on it. With it being a carbed motor I'll be able to do away with alot of the 01's wiring and make it a dumb brute. But the bigest thing stopping me is I LIKE the 79's STYLE. And I still have stuff left from my old 69/70 build that I can easily graft to the 79. My old 69 was originally a 6 banger 3 on tree that I dropped a 302 into and when the tree gave out I floor shifted it. Home brew. Ended up with pattern in reverse. She also had a granny gear in the rear end . I could pull it when in 1st and it would PULL a 80 olds delta 88 up the steepest hill in town, without a foot on the pedal. Slow but it would pull. The thing topped out at 55 mph down hill tacked out. Ugly as sin but never let me down. Long wheel base with a chevy short wheel step side bed on her. That combo got me pulled over alot. Her name was Jeepers Kreepers. I'll have to find the old pix.
