Durabook U12C Rugged Convertible Laptop Tablet Touchscreen i5 Field Toughbook.

I just bought one of these up and running ,what do you guys know about them?

Well the reviews are not that good...I just highlighted a few things . I think it's another one of them laptops that...When I grow up I want to be a Toughbook

BUILD & DESIGN

The U12C is not nearly as chunky or as boxy looking as some of its fellow rugged tablet PCs, as it sports a sleeker and slimmer design than you may expect. The exterior is what GammaTech refers to as “stylish rugged” and is made of magnesium alloy, with other parts of the machine being polycarbonate and plastic. The exterior casing feels somewhat light and hollow, almost as if the device is pretending to be something it’s not. The silver finish on the outside makes it look as if this thing is protected by something tough and durable when really it’s cheap material and makes for a machine not nearly as tough as its competitors.


The U12C was able to take mild abuse, like being dropped on the floor or kicked around (albeit somewhat carefully), but I wasn’t about to push it any further. GammaTech claims the U12C is certified to pass certain MIL-STD-810G tests (which gauge the machine’s resistance to drops, liquid/spills, and vibration/shocks), but I’m not sure I would ever want to expose the machine to especially intense conditions.

Durability

The U12C is a far cry from being the toughest rugged tablet PC out there

I got it dirt cheap,and it's going to be a resale anyway. I've never seen one but when it gets here I'll take some photos and tell you how it feels and runs. I figure it is in the CF-52 range for toughness,although in a CF-19 size thereabouts.

I have it here,it is about on par with the CF-74 as far as toughness. Better build quality and very sturdy for what it is,no flex at all in the case or lid. It just looks better as far as finish goes.

Core i5 with 6gb of ram but a slow 320gb 5400rpm drive,now with a new 240gb SSD. I am putting Windows 7 pro on it right now. Screen seems kinda dim but I will wait till I get it fully running to see if I can crank that up. Will get some photos asap.

Screen is excellent once the graphics drive is installed,boot time of 20 seconds with the 240gb SSD. Had some trouble with the drivers but their tech got right back to me and got it sorted out. As you can see from the photos this is not meant to be a waterproof unit,but I think it would hold up pretty good as a semi rugged like the CF-52 or 74.

It's obviously not in the same league as the CF-19 as far as ruggedness.

Yes they would,that's why I say other then the water proof end of it,it's a fairly nice machine.Nothing I would past list for at $1800 but I paid just over 1/10th of that.
