Volkswagen’s New 300 MPG Car Not Allowed In America Because

Sad but true! :(

Ah, who needs to put their money into something other than the gas tank anyways?
CF-29LTQ,CF-31SBM,CF-52youngGUN,

Life's Journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn-out shouting 'Woo Hoo! What a ride!

Motorsports - the only real sport. If it doesn't have a motor, it is just a game.

There is always something waiting at the end of the road, if you are not willing to see what it is, you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place.

Well, it also could be because VW expects the base price to be $120,000 (!):

There's no way they would sell over here for that.

But efficient cars are being sold in the US. There's the Tesla Model S, of course, and it is car dealership owners and sympathetic-to-same state governments giving Tesla Motors more problems expanding their sales network than are the oil companies. And then there's this, if they can get it off the ground:

84 mpg, cheap, and some interesting rethinking of various aspects of the car business (e.g., using Pep Boys as the service department).

I just want a dodge viper to go with my 34 ford 5 window. I will settle for a 426 hemi to drop in the 34 ford.

It's funny, I kind of remember my Datsun B-210 and a buddie's Honda CRX HF both getting 50+MPG back in the 80's... What happended to that?

I'd compromise and put a V-10 in it....Could even keep it Ford if you wanted to...I have no clue if the Ford or Dodge V-10 makes significant more hp than the other.. Probably a lot easier to obtain a V-10 than a real 426....

better octane fuel and we did not "need" a/c , power windows, auto trans, etc....And they had about 60hp and a bunch less emmision controls.

You can buy a real 426 Hemi crate motor from Mopar, last time I looked it was at the $13,000 level but that was a few years back.

For a lot less than $13,000, I can have an incredible V-10...
I know, I know...the image of a 426 hemi.....but I like new technology...give me fuel injection and electronic controls. More hp and more efficient than old school engines...... Personal opinion....carburetors suck wind ....and distributors can sit and spin.. :boing: .
At a car show a few years back I saw an early 50's Ford F series with a really nice Ford V-10 in it. Looked great and super dependable. No cooling issues like you always have with the high hp old school engines.

Now if you were talking about a Boss 429 engine, I might change my mind..... :D

The weight of sound deadeners and other now "needed because the government said so" stuff has really weighted down these cars. The civic in the 80's got better gas millage on engine alone than the hybrid we have today. The metro was another high millage option. A lightweight car with a roll cage would be safer than a lot of their better ideas.

I agree on carbs and distributors, but I put electronic ignition on my hopped up 69 roadrunner and boy oh boy what a difference over points,5500 rpm and never a pop. On that one 5500rpm out of the 383 was 115mph,4:10 rear and 3 speed 727 auto trans.

But zero to 115 was right now. :D Oh did I mention 3 mpg?

If you drove it at 50 it got 10mpg. I regularly got the Friends of OPEC award.
