Any ideas? Anyone?

#1 Post by Silver Trooper »

So I bought a Dell XT2 XFR (and yes I know, Dell), and the price was too good to pass up. It has all the goodies (Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 4GB RAM and lighted rubber keyboard), but does not have the camera or GPS. However, they are plug in modules on this unit so if I can find them, it is plug an play.

Here is the problem and why it was so cheap, plug in the power adapter and nothing happens. I get no lights of any kind and it will not turn on. I have tried two adapters so it is not them, and I have checked the socket and there does not appear to be anything out of order there as it is still firmly attached to the MOBO. Anybody out there ever experienced the same problem, especially with a Dell? I have pulled the bottom case and cannot find anything obviously wrong (nothing unhooked, nothing fried), and I am now open to any and all suggestions (other than getting rid it as I really am beginning to like these Dell XFR series machines.)

Anyone?
One CF-52, four CF-18's, 4.5 CF-28's, one CF-29, five CF-M34's, two CF-37's, one CF-P2 and two CF-P1's. There are also two Getac A320T's, one Fieldpac and two IBM Transnotes. Not to mention the AMD 5600 CPU with three monitors and several HP PDA's. Whew! Must quit buying...no, must have MORE! Then there are the weapons...

Take out/ or unplug all the add on hardware. Specially the RAm and wi-fi card or bluetooth card. Installed known good ram(just one ram) and see what happen.

True, it is kind of like how most people go out and buy a Chevy or Ford pickup....but that occasional person with the slightly diminished mental capacity buys the Dodge.... :boing:

However, back to the point at hand. It appears someone had been screwing around inside before I got it. When I took it down to the mobo, I noticed a screw or two missing and when I found the duct tape over the BIOS chip I was pretty much convinced. When I pulled the tape, the BIOS chip came out and one of the legs had broken off the chip. I am going to get a new pre flashed chip and see if that makes a difference.
