Setting up Ad-Hoc to share your WWAN with the WIFI / LAN.

Windows XP:

1) Set your hosts Sprint WWAN to connect via NDIS – this enables an always on connection that you don’t have to monkey with.
2) Go into your network settings and share your Sprint NDIS network adapter with your internal Wireless LAN card (in my case it is my Intl 4965AGN card).
3) Set the following IP’s on your internal WIFI card:
a. IP address: 192.168.0.1
b. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
c. Gateway: 192.168.0.1
d. DNS1 & DNS2 should be BLANK
4) Go into your wireless utility (or into windows if you are using the windows connection manager for your wireless networks) and set up an ad-hoc network and name it whatever you want (“toughWIFI” for example) and set the appropriate password you want for encryption (I find that WEP works the best, WAAAAAAAY better than WPA or WPA2), or just leave it open
5) Go into the sprint connection manager and STOP the NDIS and the START the NDIS – This re-estabolishes the connection
6) Now just go on the other wireless enabled laptop and search for the SSID you created (toughWIFI for example) and connect to it.

I have successfully done this with about 20 laptops. Back when I was in college I set this up so classmates could connect to my Sprint during the class period so that they can play online games without having to deal with the schools wifi’s firewall blocking it out. I was able to do about 3 games of WOW at once + the rest browsing the internet. One time in a 2 hour class I downloaded/uploaded 3.9GB worth of information on the Sprint network!! IMPRESSIVE! After about 20 connections it starts getting flaky and I started getting IP address conflictions (I’m thinking my toughbook didn’t know what to do with all the IP address assignments lol)

On a side note if you go to connect and you can’t get an IP address, simply set a static IP on the 2nd machine and make sure the gateway IP and the 1st dns entry are the IP address of the host machine

Windows 7:

SOOOOOOOOOOO, the default IP for the HOST machine on WINDOWS 7 on an AD HOC network is 192.168.137.1 (NOT 192.168.0.1 like in Windows XP) in order for the host computer to ASSIGN IP'S to the connecting machines when trying to share a WWAN connection from Sprint or Verizon!!! Rob - PURE GENIUS! I feel accomplished today!!

Basically if you don't use 192.168.137.1 on the host machine then it WON'T assign IP's to any machine connecting to it. So with that being said the settings are as follows for the HOST machine (all machines connecting to it will just have "obtain all the IP address's automatically"

IP Address: 192.168.137.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.137.1
DNS 1: 192.168.137.1

I finally figured it out! THANK THE LORD ALMIGHTY ABOVE!

BTW: It doesn't have to be with WIFI, you could share it through the LAN too and shell that out to a switch where all the other devices are plugged in to as well to get the same affect.

I bought one of these for $54 and confirmed that it works as a USB-Ethernet hardwired shared to the internal NIC on my CF-53 whilst having WIFI going to share a grandfathered UNLIMITED 4G LTE T-Mobile line.

I can wire my desk IP phone directly to my CF-53 this way using the above method on Windows 7
