Ok tried the button hold. All it did was turn the thing right back off. Lights never did a blinky thing or anything. Going to try to put the hdds in an old tower and boot to hirens. Will have to hope the raid set up that it is probably in will still be accessable with 1 of the 4 hdds dead.

from the owners manual..

TECHNICAL NOTE:
If the Ethernet Disk does not boot from the
USB CD-ROM drive, Edit the BIOS configuration by pressing the
“Del” button at startup
and make sure that the “First Boot Device”
option is set to “USB-CDROM” in the menu “Advanced BIOS Features”

Can you get into the BIOS by pressing del button?

Yup tried that. None of my boot disks so far are compatible. Planning to go thru my hirens files and remake an older version of hirens. I've been trying the latest, Also been trying usb dvd drives, might need to use an actual cd drive as ole as this thing seems to be. Will not boot from usb either.

Yes Shawn. I've been in the bios, done all kinds of resetting and exploring there too. Right now I'm kicking self for a basic mistake. I assumed the usb chord that I was using for the dvd drives was a universal chord. Wasn't. Grabbed another and booted from usb disk. :pat:
Have recieved all the passwords. Now systems clear of them. The Fedora link is for the sata version, but ought to be functional enuff. Already have the manuals. TY.
Big thanx for the link to the iso's. Don't know if I'm going to go to windows but good to have the oem option.
Not alot of options for a machine that tops out at 1gb ddr ram. 1 single stick is all this thing is set up for. So server it is. :salute:

Hmmmnnnnnn...... Wonder if I can drop something like pup on it and set up a dedicated MC server as well as a home media storage? Time to read...... :read:

Oh and the hdd's are deckstars. Been calling them deathstars for years. Have not had one last long yet. So I figure after making what ever mischief in these remaining hdds I can , I'll end up dropping in 4 @ 500gb each, and use it to do a set up. If 4 x 250 gb raid ended up 1tb then 4 x 500 gb ought to bring in 2tb. Add in the multiple external hdds thru usb and there I go one heck of a media hub.

Ok. Got it up and running with 3 of the 4 hdds. Now reading up on alternative distros to xp. Also looking into ide to sata adaptors to "upgrade" the capacity. 4x2tb sounds sweet. Yea I'm bored.
