sound stopped working

#1 Post by kljw »

Hi
this is a strange problem. installed windows 7 on a mk3 last night. all went weel, and i installed all the drivers to get things working.
after about an hour of looking at you tube, the sound just stopped! checked all the drivers, and even went to the extent of re-loading windows 7, but still no sound from any source
dose anyone have any ideas as to what may have caused this, and the solution?
i ghave run the diagnostic programme and all checks out fine.
Cheers
Keith

Maybe try reloading XP?

does any noise come outta the speaker if you turn it on, wait 1 second and hold the power button down when it's still posting? It should make a long tone...

Try this. Hit and hold FN key and then hit F6 and crank it all the way up. You may have inadvertently hit the mute key. Also look at the speaker icon down in the right hand corner of the screen. Double click on that and make sure the volumes are up and mute not selected. You can also go to the control panel select sound and there should be an area where you can select sounds for program events. There should be a button to play or test those sounds. Do you have SoundMAX installed? Going there you can also test speaker setup and play with the volumes.

Try going into device manager and checking to see if the driver is installed. if it is, uninstall it, reboot, and try installing the driver again.

Glad to hear you got the sound working. For future reference there is a diagnostic utility partition on toughbook hdds that may come in handy. when you turn on the computer, press ctrl + F10 and let the diags run.
