CF-30 RAM upgrade

My 64-bit Mk2 CF-30 has 4GB of RAM installed (2x2GB PC2-6400 800MHz CL6 modules). I read somewhere that 64-bit systems could run with a maximum of 8GB RAM, so I'm thinking of swapping them out with 2x4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz modules.

I saw some for sale on eBay but they were listed for Toshiba models L350, L505, M300, and S300. Would these work in my CF-30 anyway?

Thanks.

Your Cf-30 will only support 4 GB RAM. You’ll need to move up to a CF-31 to get 8GB.

Well, that's unfortunate. Does that apply to all CF-30s, Mk1, Mk2, and Mk3? I saw some postings that suggest their CF-30 works with 8 GB. Of course, Panasonic says the CF-30 can't run Win 10 either, but I have 3 of them running Win 10 just fine.

OFFICIALLY Panasonic says they will only take 4gb, but they will do more. Highest I have done on a Mk2 is 6 GB (on a 19 but same series chip)

Well, I tried it with 6gb and 8gb and neither worked. In fact, I couldn't even get the screen to turn on. The hard drive light by the touchpad blinked twice and that was it. So I put the 2x 2gb chips back in. I guess 4gb is the best this model will do. :-(

What type ram are you using that works, what did you put in there that didn't work.

I have attached photos of the 2 x 2gb chips in the CF-30 now and the new 2 x 4gb ones I tried to install.

I think the problem may be that the current chips are listed at 800 MHz while the new one show 666. Also, one of the new chips appears to be high density (the one with 4 modules on the stick) while the other may be low density (8 modules).

Does this make sense?

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this issue.

Have you tired each 4 gb chip by it's self yet? When I get a chance later today I am going to do some cross referencing.

Here is the offical thread from the 8gb of ram upgrade on a mark 2. He used the low density. Think most toughbook ram is low density double row.

Thanks. I tried both 4gb chips together and each 4gb chip with one of the existing 2gb chips, but I don't think I tried just one of the 4gb chips. Although even if each one singly worked, it would still only be 4gb total RAM. I suppose if either of the new 4gb chips failed to work by itself, it might suggest a bad RAM stick.

I will take a look at the other threads you mention. I really appreciate everyone's help!
