Panasonic Toughbook newbie CF-30 Problems

#1 Post by scotguy »

Hello :D

Just bought my first toughbook and looking for a bit of help on some stuff.

Model number CF-30 MK3 CF-30KQC55AM Windows 7 32bit touch/pen screen,WFI,GSM,DVD,Scandisc SDSSDHP 256 SSD ,4GB RAM
26,000 hours, runs fast however haven't loaded on anything yet!

1.Gets very hot on the my lap when charging on AC though they were supposed to run quite cool especially when i had the SSD drive fitted are they suppose to be so hot? most heat not coming from the battery area but from the RAM bay area is this normal. could it be my AC Charger its Panasonic ref CF-AA1653A Type 16.6v 5A.

2. Battery only lasts about 4 hours constantly on and takes 3 hours to charge, any advice on what's the best replacement? I'm in the UK so part number or type would be good.

3.Is 26,000 working hours a bit high?

4.Touch screen good on pen but need to hit it hard when using finger (nail is better)

That's it any help would be appreciated might send it back if i cant get the above sorted :(

Open Panasonic info program.
Go to battery tab.
What info is given there? Screen grab would be great.
Is it a Panasonic battery?
26,000 is higher, but these are getting older. I have had 20,000 hour units that operated fine. But it probably needs the thermal pads changed. They go between the CPU //GPU and the housing. The entire housing works to dissipate heat. The thermal pads dry out and their performance diminishes as they age.

Curious..Ebay?
What did you pay for it?

(1) So are you saying when it's not plugged in its cool?

(2) 4 hours on battery is very good to me. My dell gets maybe 2 if I am luckily.

(3 )26,000 is high but I have seen a lot higher.

(4)Touch screen is working right. They don't work like your phone.

Hi Guys thanks for that, the laptop is still very hot when on battery, is it a big job replacing the thermal pads and where can i source them?

Ref the cost yes bought on fleebay for 370 pounds xpress delivery, was in a hurry and needed quick so had to take what was available regretting it now! also haven't got a panasonic info program on my unit however the battery is a panasonic one see above for part number.

New problem- i have a sim card unit a WWAN sled with a qualcomm UNDP-1 card GOBI 1000 in it and its in my device manager under "other devices" as a qualcomm HS-USB but its indicating as not working have tried downloading off the panasonic website the Gobi CSA multi-carrier software but after extracting the drivers it comes up WWAN DEVICE NOT FOUND! and wont proceed, any ideas? have tried various other drivers to no avail.

Not the charger part number.
The battery itself.

Link to program
http://pc-dl.panasonic.co.jp/dl/downloa ... ss6945.exe

The wwan card may not be from a Toughbook. The Gobis are very brand specific.

Here is a video for changing the pads on a CF29. The CF30 is very similar.

Thanks for the vid

Battery part number is CF-VZSU46

Ref WWAN card its defo the original when i took it out to check it there was sand and grit on the groves so it hadnt been opened for years also the link is the one i got the idea from and it states it should work if you download the CSA i have tried other drivers and they seem to load on and push the Qualcomm from the other devices to the network adapters section and it comes up as a working unit but when i try and load on the CSA its still comes up as before??

Ok lets try plan B.

Download the driver bundle and install everything. Whoever set it up did not know what they were doing.
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/computer/softwa ... 3-7x86.exe

After it finishes downloading, RIGHT click and choose "Run as administrator"

That will install ALL of the proper drivers. That may help the heat also. I doubt it, but it may.
