Screen noise

#1 Post by TowerClimb-11FN »

Hello all! First post... anyways I was reading the Boo,Hisss topic http://www.toughbooktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2741 and it seams I have a different problem than the OP but you might have hit the nail on the head of my problem. My screen gives out a high pitched squeal when its cold or I have the brightness turned up too high, goes away when screen is off. It usually goes away though after a few minutes. Would that be my LCD converter? I noticed my screen is slightly yellow too. Not sure if that is any helpful. I believe I have 16k hours on my book and it was refurbished but im thinking that may have been skipped if so.

Its a signed that your LCD is in near of retirement but still usable though for bit of time. The sound that you are hearing is for sure from the inverter cause when you adjust to increase the brightness it require a bit of power together with its heating element. The sound has been created from the inductive component of the inverted due its length of service(stress and losses of its coating due to heat). Try to replace the inverter If necessary a brand new one not a used one.

Ok, well it has a 1 year warranty so if it doesn't pop before it expires, i was thinking maybe the LED conversion? Whats the cost difference between replacing the inverter or making the LED switch.

LED conversion is the best choice. It cost you around 25 to 30 buck on materials.
