Another MK2/Win7 query - Video Driver Brightness Control

#1 Post by PeteGould »

I think this has been pretty well beaten to death but JUST IN CASE anyone has an idea...

I work part-time as a police officer in my town, and because of my part-time status we’re slow to get upgrades (most things go to the full-time staff). I have to nurse a CF-30 Mk2 (model CF-30FASZAM) along for at least another year as a patrol car computer (but because I have a computing background, they’re good about giving me admin access to it so I can do pretty much what I want to keep it running).

The trouble is that the dispatch software has moved to Win7 and while this computer is now running it ALMOST okay, there’s one major issue.

The video driver they’re using is the Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family Version 8.15.10.1930 (9/23/2009) which works fine EXCEPT that it hoses the brightness control, which remains at full brightness regardless of the position of the slider in the Display control panel. Try that on your eyes while driving at night (not to mention that it lights up your face as a perfect target for bad guys)!

On the Panasonic site I found Version 7.14.10.1244 (3/30/2007) which also seems to work in Win7 and restores the functionality of the brightness control EXCEPT that it also breaks one of the applications: it’s a browser-based report writing application that has to work on this machine, and with the older driver installed it paints its display as a blank page. All the buttons are there if you hover over them – you just can’t see any of them. What sucks is that EVERYTHING ELSE works fine with this driver. It only breaks that one app.

So I’m in search of a driver later than 7…1244 and earlier than 8…1930 that hopefully makes the brightness control operational on a CF-30 MK2 and doesn’t break the report writing app. OR an app or hack that will allow access to the screen brightness control with the later driver active. EVERYTHING ELSE works okay; screen brightness is the only issue.

Thanks in advance for any help!

do the hotheys for brightness work? Fn + F1 and F2

Try completely uninstalling the win7 video driver. Delete from HDD.

Install the Windows Vista Video driver for a CF30 mk2

So I just did this....what Shawn said. Driver from jp site. 1930_22_d070577 Vista MK2. Windows wanted to argue about it. It unpacked o.k. then I clicked setup in \util2 folder and it ran.
It's the 7..........1244 one.
