All

Thank all of you experts for the tips.

The official results after I speaking with Mr. Jeff (Sadlmkr) for a little while; all the kuddos go out to him.

He was able to successfully get W7-64 to work correctly on a 30Mk3 tonight.

This is the "low down" for our discussion/conversation over the phone.....

Thanks again Jeff and SEMPER FI, you are a gentlemen and scholar.

Once again this is all Jeff, I'm just being the secretary here...LOL

Mr. Jeff, took my call, installed it, and called me back with his successful findings......what a great guy he is.

Steps for success:

-Load W7-64
-Let Windows install the drivers.
-Download only the Vista SP1 drivers for the Panasonic Misc Components (d081067) and the Hotkey Driver (d081475) from the Panny Site.
-Install only these 2 drivers.. to rid the unknown devices, in the device manager, for mat00019 and mat00021.

If you try to install the Hotkey appendix driver it usually kills the audio. The only items you will loose will be the cute lite screen pop ups when dimming the screen as such.

That's it, other than the 3rd unknown device Jeff saw, which was his Gobi; He said that if he had a little more time he would figure the Gobi one out.

Hope this helps any and all others on this forum, like it has me.

Now to get the "backdoor" 8 GB of RAM upgrade(special thanks to Shawn and Azrial for this info) , install W7-64, then game on for several VMs....WOOHOO. Gonna make my job/tasks sooooooo much easier in the traffic signal field........

@Jeff, hopefully the notes I took and typed up on his post are completely correct, if not please update them my good friend

Thank you all for your time and continued assistance; it is very much appreciated, as always.

Have a wonderful, safe and blessed evening.

Respectfully,

Nick

Installing updates ad infinitum in normal M$ fashion. I'll report back when that is done. Adding Adobe Reader XI now, feeding the sheep and looking for the bull. (2200 pounds of Angus) Typical day but lovely as the wind stopped blowing.

I installed from W7 Ultimate 64 bit. Told it to overwrite the XP on the disk. Fixed MAT0019 and MAT0021 using drivers from jp for MK3 Vista. This next set of updates may auto fix the Gobi 1000 exclamation thingy. (for all I know it may be using some of the XP drivers for MK3) (don't care, it works)

The hokey appendix was causing the screen back-light issue. Sometimes it breaks sound. (my opinion)

Your very welcome.

Looking around a bit I find the util directory is full....assuming from the Windows.old file written by Ultimate while installing.
So would this work on a clean disk?...I think not.
I'm recommending installing Windows Vista for the unit. Then shut down and start your Ultimate /Pro disk and let it wipe files or use them. Why?...You end up with the toughbook drivers for the machine in the /util folder where they belong.
Further testing of my Ultimate disk on a wiped drive should tell the tale.
This is a Mark 3.

I agree on the upgrade rather than a clean install...
That's what Morgan did.

Mr. Jeff.....so I got this one straight..... the one we spoke about last night was loaded with Vista (YUCK) originally and you installed W7-64 on top of it as an upgrade?

If so, would anyone happen to have a Vista Restore disk for this Mk3 that they are willing to part with. Before you slap my hand a put me in time out...... I know that this should be going on the B/S/T forum, just want to make sure I got it correct this time.

I will try do a clean install of W7-64, on this Mk3, this weekend and see what happens if only the 2 drivers that the super talented Mr. Jeff suggested will allow this rig to run correctly.

Last weekend I did a clean install of W7-64 on it, no issues what so ever. Until I began installing the drivers, which were for 32 bit W7, which was probably the root of all my hair being pulled out.

Like I said....whats the worst that can happen...it not work?

If you don't succeed at first, try, try again.....

It is a wonderful opportunity to experiment with these machines and with there being so many experts on here that share this similar TB love and/or curse, all depends on how you look at it, makes it so much better.

Thank you all for your continued time and assistance.

Have a safe, blessed, and enjoyable evening.

You keep saying Mister and I think you are talking to my dad.

As is sop here I just "did" it.

Vista yuck and all should have most of the drivers in the right place. i.e. \util......downloads in \util2

So install Vista for your unit....shut down and install W7 over it. My recco. I got lucky as most of the XP drivers worked.

Do I know what I'm doing? NO! Does it work? Yes.

Edit: Ask Rob if he has a copy of Vista for the MK3. Endedit.

And thank you Mr. Shawn. It's o.k. me and Nick have "priors".

Nick is the most respectful human that I have dealt with (telephone and email) in a long time. A true gentleman. In the running for Mr.Nice Guy. Serious. And he WORKS his Toughbooks. If Nick says he needs 8 GB of ram he NEEDS it.
