cf-30 dvd/cdrw drive

#1 Post by Mxx20 »

Ok, I've been looking around here after Jeff recommended me here, my cd drive works, but when it comes to writing cd's it wont see blank disks, cdr's or dvdr's. Well i was at the flea market and found a dvdrw it was out of a dell but it was a sony drive and fit the CF-30 adapter/caddy i installed and booted up fine(for $7 for the drive i figured what would i loose if it didnt work lol). shows as a bootable drive in bios reads cd's and dvd's fine like the other drive...but neither drives will write or recognize blank disks...any ideas??? im stumped and out of ideas...ive searched here and nbr and google... :(

Give VLC a shot. It may have the registry tweaks built in.

Check W7 Q&A at Microsoft. I think your missing an upgrade or this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 89f7493aee

Mentions re-installing/upgrading driver for DVD and etc.
Fair for you/ Fair for me.

The drives are dying. I have a CF-74 that started doing that a couple weeks ago. Any time I have had an optical drive start acting up, and a good cleaning with a cleaning disc, running multiple times, does not fix the problem, it has turned out to be the drive itself failing. Now you know why the drive from the flea market was cheap. :)

Save yourself time and frustration and just get another (new) drive.

You can try reloading drivers for the optical drives, but I'll be surprised if either one starts working.

they work as "drives" but will not burn, one doesnt see the disk and the other says drive to fast/slow
