quick question re buying toughbooks especially from canada

#1 Post by countrydrake »

are toughbook sales always in usa?

if so I guess that private sale may be a bit easier than from a store if coming from usa since the former wouldn't be any problem to mark as a gift just for the sake of not getting any crazy pulled-out-of-hat custom fee (how is it that a $100 package gets $2 fee while a $400 package suddenly gets $120? wish I could understand anything! heh)

Good luck on passing a computer into Canada as a gift, trust me I live in New Brunswick,Canada...2 minutes from the border. Customs will check online to see what the prices are and take $50.00 off the price then will charge you the sales tax on the rest. If it is sent by the postoffice (USPS) it is cheaper but if it is sent by Fedex or UPS then they charge you customs and broker fees and that adds up big time  . A lot of sellers now will not under value there items because if caught they will get black listed and then everything they ship will get pulled in and gone over.

There is some big toughbooks seller in Canada...just need to look harder ;) , from Ontario and Quebec I think.

Have you checked the local Kijiji? I see various Toughbooks for sale in Galgary/Edmonton area. I recently picked up a nice CF-W5 with factory discs off the Calgary Kijiji.

amusing timing, I was just checking forum to see if there were any new posts to read yet...
I actually found one in kingston on kijiji but going to wait and see if seller writes back re whether he wants to ship or not

I still haven't found any places with toughbooks other than 'out of stock' on tigerdirect or very high prices on ncix (over four thousands....), looks like private sale is the only way forward afaik :-)
