CF-74 Sound & Video Problems

#1 Post by Azrial »

Hey guys, I have just upgraded an old CF-74F Mk2from XP to Win7. Now my screen is very washed out looking and I have no audio. I see that I have the SigmaTel STAC9200 sound chip so I "think" that I need the "Sigmatel C-Major STAC 9750 AC97 WDM Audio Driver."

When I try and play audio from the Internet or a sound file it starts the player and I see where it is playing the sound, but I can not hear anything. The hardware is good, because it works fine in Linux.

Oh yeah, what are you guys using for hotkeys driver?

Any ideas from anyone that has done this OS upgrade?

I had the same basic problems with two Mk1's I gave my girlfriends two girls. I had to do a bios upgrade though a floppy on a usb floppy drive to update the bios to the vista bios. Windows 7 loaded fine, but some hardware didn't work. Once I updated and loaded the vista drivers for sound and video it worked fine. For hotkeys I used a newer toughbook model I think CF-19 driver for hotkey.

Just checked the Panasonic site and it will need the bios updated for vista like I did on the Mk1, never had to do it for the 74 Mk3/4 versions.

It won't let me put the updated links down.

Windows_Vista_Upgrade_Step-by-Step_Guide(CF-74mk1_2)_ver2.pdf [1.28 mb]

bios_74_2_r060257.exe [0.9 mb

Just have to go to the main site, search all drivers, for mk2, then vista upgrade for the links page.

Well I downloaded the latest BIOS for Vista (2.00-L12) and using my shiny USB FFD (Thanks ADOR!) was trying to replace Bios 2.10-L11 and I got the following message, "ERROR It is prohibited to update this BIOS."

That is a new one on me! Any Ideas?

WAIT!!! I just noticed, I would assume that 2.10-L11 is newer then the downloaded BIOS 2.00-L12! This makes no sense! :pat:

I am not sure how the BIOS numbers run!

Well I have "solved" the problem! It has become clear, some computers are distended from birth to become Linux machines. One can not thwart the will of Linus Torvalds.
