CF-74 overseas/China caddy review

I picked up two hard drive caddies a few months back. I finally had the chance to load one up today. The caddy comes apart like the original one and has orange foam shock protection. I dropped in a 160 GB HD and all the connections worked well. This caddy doesn't come with a hard drive heater but the connection is there. I have a factory caddy that just the cable was missing in and I will be trying to swap parts to see how close they are. It locks into the machine right, it felt tight sliding it in and took a extra bump but it all worked. I will be trying it out and give a longer term use report of them later.

Paul! I still have four CF-74 that laying around somewhere on my boxes that I haven't yet work on it. Last time I power it all up most of them has dim screen. maybe I will try the led to one of it and see. I set it all aside coz of the price of battery and HDD caddy.

Would you mind to ask you how much the cost of your hdd caddy? Thanks

It was around 70 bucks each, still not cheap. But no used caddies were showing up. So I though I would try them. I still have two Mk1's and two Mk4 models to fix up. The batteries and caddies for these models have been a pain to find in good shape used. I have batteries for the Mk4 units so I may just scrap out the Mk1's right now.

I have sold a bunch of 74's and to tell the truth have only seen one factory caddy, all the rest were from China and they all .worked great. I had one minor problem when the small latch broke off on one,the seller offered to replace it but I went with a small refund as it still worked.

About 70% got Chinese batteries with no problems but one,a mk4 would not charge an aftermarket battery, pulled a used battery from a mk3 and switched them and they both worked.

There is an outfit on eBay selling 73,74's called play it again PC,they have hundreds of them dirt cheap. You can get a 74 up and running with some minor damage for less then $100.
