The CF-74

Image

The CF-74 is a semi rugged Toughbook. They are all dual core models spanning over 4 Mks. This is the end of the line for this style model. The closest thing that Panasonic has to this model now is the CF-53. The screen is the standard desktop resolution of 1024 x 768 on a 13.3" screen. These machines are a lot lighter than the fully rugged toughbooks and make good travel computer. Dock and Mini Dock is also avaliable for them. WWAN, smart card reader and a fingerprint scanner are also options. These machines run windows 7 fine. It is factory rated for 6-8 hrs on the battery.

Customer Special Configuration:

When a customer orders multiple units of the same configuration they are designated a Panasonic Customer Configuration Number which replaces the fourth & fifth letters in the standard model number.

In the event of the same customer ordering multiple units of different configurations, they are designated additional Customer Configuration Numbers....These configurations are not available in the Panasonic Configurator....these units can often be of a standard configuration with subtle additions such as external hardware....or more significant such as a non-standard Bios that disables the use of WLAN/Bluetooth/Modem.

A Customer Configuration is just that....tailored to the customers needs.

Example; CF-18xxx90xx....This number (90) is designated to Toyota (US)....the full model number is not available in the Panasonic Configurator....so the configuration....subtle or otherwise, is unknown!!

The GM45 chipset can handle 8GB of ram according to Intel. Panasonic says 4gb is the max. Has any one tried this on a Mk4 yet? I have personally seen 6gb of ram on this chipset but not on a toughbook.

I put 8GM ram in a CF-52A Mk1 running Win7 64-bit and it works great, so should be good in a CF-74 with similar chipset. With some looking you can find those 4GB PC2-6400 SODIMM modules on the Flea for around $50 each.

I am looking at 5100 cards right now on the bay so I can try them out on those two Mk4's that are federal models. I may go head and pick up some ram.
Thanks for the info Springfield.

Paul,
Here is something to add.

CF74G
I pulled the Intel 4965 wifi card and installed a half height Intel 6250. No problems other than it has Bluetooth on the wifi card. I disabled it and all is well.
Speed instantly jumped from 50 to 144. Woo hoo!
