I feel stupid asking this-Enabling wireless on CF-72

#1 Post by packetloss »

I recently bought a CF-72 and I can't figure out how to turn the wireless on. I've searched for a switch, but no dice. I know it has a wireless card because I saw it when I had the case opened up (had to repair some stuff when I got it) and it shows up in lspci with the following

Code: Select all

02:03.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05)
So, how do I turn the damned thing on?

Google is no help, no threads here seem to have my answer either. Is there really not a switch or something?

Did the wireless option appear on the bios? If yes! Is it enable? Hit F2 during bootup to direct you into bios setup.

What version of Linux are you using. There have been some very nice upgrades to include most of the wireless drivers for Intel.
What Intel Chipset?

Code: Select all

dmesg grep | Intel
There were some issues requiring an upgrade with 855GM. Appears to be mostly graphics related.

Good luck,

Jeff

2200bg should be supported out of the box in Linux for some years (firmware included).
Try the rfkill tool, to see whether it's block in SW or HW.

Code: Select all

$ rfkill list
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
If it's soft blocked, then unblock it:

Code: Select all

$ rfkill unblock wlan
If it's hard block, then usually it's the hardware switch, but in your case it may be
disabled in BIOS.

what Linux flavor and version do you have ?

Thanks guys, I've been busy the last couple days and haven't been able to check the board. It'll take me a minute to read through these replies and try them. I'm using Arch linux and I never even considered checking the bios, DOH!

Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it works out!

Are you sure the card is good? I had a CF-T2 one time that I had hell getting the card to show up, then when it did never worked right. Replacing the card solved the issue.

Also try running another Linux live CD to test and see if it will work under it.

I think testing with another distro is gonna be my next move. It shows up fine in lspci. Im inclined to call it good.
