My JULA21M has an excellent gps on the Gobi card. (2000)

Turn it on in Linux like this:

Code: Select all

sudo echo "\$GPS_START" > /dev/ttyUSB1
jula@jula-CF-53JULA21M ~ $ gpsd /dev/ttyUSB1
jula@jula-CF-53JULA21M ~ $ xgps
Fair for you/ Fair for me.
I chose to NOT be organized.

Further research shows it as a Gobi 3000 card but I assume a Gobi 2000 would work. Best place to get a card that I know will work?

GOBI 3000 or 4G LTE carrier SPECIFIC will work in this unit.

ATT = MC7700
Verizon = MC7750

TECHNICALLY the GOBI 2000 will work but it's DESIGNED to use the GOBI 3000 chip.

Luckily I have 106 brand new OEM GOBI 3000 chips in stock for $150/each shipped.

Thanks!

So! It seems that CF-53 has no provision for a dedicated GPS. Time again to mod the Smart card reader port.

We don't have schem. yet? Anybody.

So! the factory option is only available for MK2 or above. No option on MK1.

I explore a bit the mobo. of an MK1 and I found this connector. I believed that the 8pin connector port available near beside the Cmos battery connector will be for Smart Card reader which is located at the bottom of the access area for wireless system and the connector beside the dim area will be for finger print reader.

I will start the test by trial and error on the smart card connector. If it is a USB base system, now we have GPS dedicated port.

Its been a while since I posted this option but now I have a bit of a progress. The USB to TTL adapter doesn't work as there is a compatibility issue( MS sucks!). It did installed the USB to serial driver but it gives you a BSOD. What I did is I replaced the USB to TTL by a USB to UART adapter and so far it works perfectly. On the pictures, it is temporarily installed just to make sure it does work. I used the Smart card reader port(8pin connector). See pictures
