Recovery DVD/iso to flash drive

I have been working on doing this myself and have failed.

My first question is mainly to Rob.

Does Panasonic have plans for anytime in this decade to make the recovery images available or transferrable to usb stick?

DVD's images are becoming a fading medium. Now with many Toughpads and even laptops sold without DVD drives, it would seem that making recovery images workable from flash media to be a forward progress idea.

You can create a bootable USB and copy the contents of the DVD.

But when I did that, and run the restore it fails.
It looks for the recovery image on the DVD drive.

I had one of the guys at work look into this for me and they think the way Panasonic sets it up as a image is the problem. As we know other companies gives you a OS plus drive dvd...no image. What we need is someone to write this into the BIOS and that is above my pay rate. We have been trying to boot from USB for years and have gotten no where. So much easier just to pay the $20.00 for a dvd player...less headaches

Yes, but the FZ G1 only has 1 usb port. reimaging gets tricky witout a mouse/keyboard.

The Panasonic image is the standard Microsoft wim format.
I don't think the image itself is the problem, it's the way the recovery program runs the image file.
I am pretty sure that the issue is in the ini files, but like you Blair, that's getting above my pay grade for a hardware guy.
I tried putting the Panasonic wim image on a standard Microsoft recovery and I had a problem with it locking up in the middle of one of the setup to recover screens.
I think that it did not load the drivers correctly. I dunno

On the CF-U1 I have used a USB port hub to boot from DVD and run a mouse at the same time as it only has one USB.

The hub is an option,,,
But I figured I would look into converting the image to usb stick again.
I AM closer now that I got the Panasonic wim file extracted.
I may just need to integrate the G1 driver pack for Win PE onto the usb.

The usb stick is so much faster and easier.

If you have a rj45 port you could try a PXE boot.
