CF-19 China non-backlit keyboard not waterproof?

#1 Post by User32 »

Somehow I managed to kill the non-BL/China chiclet keyboard of my 19 last night, it was next to me on a stool and I had dripping hands.

Most keys don't work anymore, so I can assume that it's pretty much dead?

I'm not familar with this particular keyboard,
but it usually helps to let wet electronics airdry for a couple of hours.

I ran Prime95 on Blend all night long and it didn't fix it, nor did a few minutes at 50C in our oven.

The inside is a plastic sheet with contacts on it. Not really much to get permanently damaged by water. Let it air dry for a day or two.
Did you try a different keyboard? Does it work?

Here is a photo of the sheet inside a rubber keyboard. The emissive is very similar.

I already ordered a new keyboard, but I didn't try another KB as I don't have one.

Yeah it's completely dead, I soaked it in WD40 and it still doesn't work anymore.

Into the trash it goes then, gotta wait about 1.5 weeks for my new KB.

why the heck would you soak it in WD40? if you can disassemble it enough to get at its innards, using contact cleaner would be better than WD40...... which I wouldnt EVER use anywhere near a computer!
Panasonic Toughbook
CF-30KTPAX2M
Win7 Pro 32bit
160gb/4gb
Gobi2k WWAN&GPS
Intel 5300 WLAN
Sony Optiarc AD5540 Optical
More goodies to come

Hey, it worked for my dad's car which had a coolant leak over the BCM.

FYI
It is much much much better to use electronic cleaner spray. It dissipates water without leaving residue.
