Is it possible to add an extra USB socket ?

#1 Post by AutoFreak »

Basically I have a CF29 and it only has the one USB. As far as I am aware I don't have Bluetooth so I was going to buy a USB Bluetooth dongle to put into that and leave it there but I would like another port. Is this possible through a retro fit?

You are better off upgrading to a later model CF29 that has multiple usb ports and built in bluetooth.

Shawn and a few others would stomp a mudhole in me for this. But I have been using those pc slot adaptors for extra usb posts on my 30, 73's, and 74's for years with no ill effects. I forget if my 29's have the pc slots or not. My collection is in storage at the moment or I would get one and check. Mind you I just use them as data transfer for thumb drives. I use the regular usb for anything that requires any real voltage like external hdd's. I've also used them for my track ball dongle. But I use the regular usb for my wireless when needed.

As long as the deal is good for you it is good for me.

Yes those will work, but some people have had problems with them burning out the internal port. Have you tried a USB hub yet?

On a CF29 without WWAN, you can fit a USB hub inside in the WWAN location. Then run the 5 v power cable to a GOOD location that has enough amperage. Easy to even mod the WWAN cover for the 2 new USB ports.

I have a extra usb port inside my CF-29 right now. The GPS kit I used had one on one of it's boards to add bluetooth, but I never use it so it's just a open port for now. When I finally overhaul it I will so something interesting with it.

OK adding the usb to the wwan cover sounds like a great solution. Where do I find a usb that has wires to directly attach to a voltage though ?
