New guy to the forum. Obligitory introduction.

#1 Post by Bill_TN »

Hello everyone. My name is Bill and I reside in TN USA. Sorry for our polititions but not all of us are quite that bad. I am fast becoming a collector of ToughBooks. So I'm always looking for tech tips and parts. I currently own 2 CF-74's , 6 CF-73's , 1 totaly non-functional CF-51 , 1 CF-28 , and a nice little CF-M34.
Not all are complete so will be looking for parts. Mostly HD carriers. Thank you for allowing me to join and looking forward to the knowledge pool.
CF-29ET, CF-28ST, CF-30G , CF-M34, CF-19Ch, CF-19FH, CF-19CD, CF-73 mk1, CF-74K & H, CF-51RCB, CF-51RCL, CF-52CC .

As long as the deal is good for you it is good for me.

Thank you for that Shawn. Yes it seems to be becoming an addiction. I've been surfing the site for a few weeks now and STILL will have questions.
I am, at this time, working on a list of parts that I have available for trade if that will be tollerated. One will be surprised at how long it takes to test 30 DVD drives, and as many 74 type power units. WOW.
I'm looking for CF-73 & 30 HDD carriers desperately. That don't cost $$$$ . Have found a few interesting "mods" in that area that I plan to try, and will, in most likely hood, part down a few of the toys here to get 1 of each up and fully functional.
At this time 1 74 has touch screen and the other doesn't. Both run either W7 or Linux depending on which HDD is in it at the time. All the 73's run from live disk and store on external storage, so not exactly portable. The 30 is booting from usb and storing to same. The 51 is just dead so far. Blk screen and nothing on an external, regardless of ramm swaps. Not even BIO's. The 28 is missing batt, HDD carrier, same covers . But otherwise boots and runs with live dvd and has functional touch screen. So not sure what will do with that one. Now the CF-M34, sweet little mini dianasaur that it is, is fully functional and is running a linux puppy off the internal HDD. Which I'll be updateing soon to more modern version.
So yea I guess it is rather addictive. LOL

That was the homemade caddy I made for the 73's when I had one, they are all gone now.

On the 73 models the Mk3 with ATI 9000 video are my favorites.

If you can't find anything cheap to make a caddy I think I still have a couple of CF-50 caddy ribbons that I "think" might work in a home made set up like I did for some of the ones I had.

Yes Ador I saw that post and followed the link. One of the hacks that I had mentioned. T/Y. I have an odd ribbon here that not sure what model it came from. So plan to perform surgery and see what can see. Was hoping initally that one of my 74's or maybe a 19 might work, as I have a few of those laying around. But no such luck.

Welcome to the madhouse.

I have a CF-73 complete w/ caddy (badly painted lid)and a 73 for parts (for the lid)....FYI. I think parts 73 has a SD label on it.

WattOS doesn't play with the 2100 card. Works with BLink USB AGN. Puppy will use the 2100.

There's a 74 G and a 74 J here too. Just saying.

I'd like to lose the 70 series units.

Again, Welcome.

Jeff

If you need CF-74 caddies you need to be watching eBay .Last month a member here ended up paying $65.99 his. For the CF-30 the going rate is $40.00 to $50.00 .

I haven't personally tried it but the older ribbons that are for the IDE drives should work as long as you can get it to fit, The 19 and 74 are for a SATA drive and shouldn't work.

On the 73 once you pull the handle off the palm rest will flip up making it easy to test to see if it will see and recognize the drive.
