Windows 10 Technical Preview

#1 Post by natescott90 »

Just curious has anyone out there tried out the Windows 10 Technical preview? I got a free Microsoft Dreamspark Premium account through one of my college classes, and I'm downloading the preview now. Dreamspark is like a software candyland, it has the Pro versions of Windows 8, 7, Vista, every version of Windows Server, Windows Embedded, and heck even Windows Mobile 5 and 6! But anyways back on topic I'm gonna test it on a spare CF-30 hard drive I have, and post my results.

Win10 is not bad..I loaded it on a CF30 a while back...
It takes some time for my brain to upgrade from 7 to 10., but once I accept the changes it was ok.

I'm working with it on my new CF19. First pass, it is just as annoying as Win 8 about moving things just to move them. Still trying to sort out sound issues, but it is not working in Linux either so I think I may have some hardware issues.

EDIT: Turns out it is the long known issue with CF19s and sound not working only on the internal speaker, not a Win 10 issue. Got it sorted.

My oldest boy has been using it for a couple of months. Right before I left the house he came and got the windows 7 reload disk to put 7 back on his machine. It did feel better than 8, but still nothing I would be willing to replace 7 with as of yet.

Yeah I don't think I'm gonna put 8 on my CF-30 ever or Windows 10 when it comes out, I like 7 Pro too much and it runs like a dream

I tried it on a CF-C1 but gave up,I just put 8.1 on an X201 core i7 to try and get used to it,then I might jump to 10. Problem is Windows 7 is just a great program and works good on everything back to a CF-30mk1.

But I have a beater C1 almost ready and I'm a glutton for punishment so why not? :D

Loaded Win10 64bit on the CF53A.
Release version 10061
It's shaping up nicely. Slow to install and update. But I am running a spinner HDD so it may be that some of the lag is that I am so used to SSD's in my other machines. I imagine the update servers are quite busy with everyone trying out the previews so that would slow downloads.
Huge improvement over Win8.1.
Story is official release end of July.
Free upgrade from Win7 and Win8..
Although if you're not activated or alternatively activated that status will be the same with the new OS.
Life will beat you into submission.

I download it from here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/preview-iso which took about 10 minutes. I used ImgBurn which you can get here , it's freeware http://download.cnet.com/ImgBurn/3000-2 ... 47481.html. It took me about 13 minutes to burn the Windows 10 ISO. Now the fun part....install and ALL them updates :pat:
