I'm reading through these posts and agreeing with all the advice. I've named myself "hack" as I've got big fingers and bad eyes. Delving in as you have is admirable. Until you get more into what wireless card you will install on the 30, Shawn posted once these little gems that work well on the 19 and 30 that don't have wireless:

They work great and are very small.

I'll have to order one; That solves my major issue with the CF-30 after the OS. Thanks a lot!

Downloaded Adobe Reader last night on the CF-19... Windows decided it needed to update... I was aware that as long as I run Windows 7, I would have driver issues, particularly with the keyboard hotkeys. But since the update, I've lost my mouse touchpad, my com ports for my WWAN card, and God knows what else. I am beside myself.

Does anyone have any insight into what happened? is it reversible? do I just need to hunt-down and re-install drivers? And is this going to keep happening?!

I'm seriously considering downgrading to Vista. Pros/Cons?

Are you using 64bit or 32bit? Recovery disk or manual install?

If you don't have one,get a recovery disc. Believe me on this one,the CF-18 and CF-19 are a pita to do manually and get things right. There is a Windows 7 disc for the Mk3 as I just looked and I have one.

Get with Rob to get a copy. I bought a mint Mk1 a couple of years ago before i knew anything and pulled most of my remaining hair out trying to get it right. Now recovery disc and 15 minutes, done deal. DVD drive can be had cheap on eBay.

Sounds good. But is it the best decision to downgrade? I want to be able to use this computer for a few years, how long is it going to be before nothing's compatible? I want full hardware functionality (I wanted a CF-19!), but is it worth the trade-off of running a dated OS?

Also, my COM ports came back. My mapping program was telling me it couldn't open the COM port, then it started tracking satellites out of nowhere. WTH?
