And so I attempted to switch to a Samsung Ultrabook...

#1 Post by Rob »

Before I start let me say: Forgive me Toughbook geeks as I have sinned! This is what I bought and will return today: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msu ... .289564800

To start, let me explain WHY I tried this out:

1) Toughbooks are HEAVY units
2) Toughbook screens are lower end compared to the competition

Things I overlooked when I bought this Samsung ATIV 9 Plus:

1) No Verizon 4G built in
2) No digitizer for my one note notes

Why did I buy this?
1) The screen res is 3200x1800... Which, BTW is SO HIGH that you have to have everything at 200% zoom anyways! It's not practical! It's actually TOO high of a res! I had to scale it back to 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 while using my terminal for my work, defeating the entire point of having such a nice, beautiful screen. All in all, this Samsung is BADASS for a normal, consumer who doesn't mind not having a digitizer or a Verizon card built in. I even considered going back to my H1 for my notes portion, which I thought about and decided that I'm NOT taking steps BACKWARDS!

At any rate, I'm returning it and going back to my trusty C2. Although, I AM going to put Windows 8.1 on it!

In the future when I can get a G1 for cheap I'll most likely switch to that and get a jumpseat keyboard from iKey for it. Can't drop $3000 right now though!

That is it! :binky:

Maybe we should turn this into a screen hack thread for a toughbook. Find a screen that will fit with a higher resolution.

that ~6MP resolution on a 13.3" is insane ! (even more when you compare it to 1024x768 ~0.8MP)

Maybe a graphic designer/photoshopper would appreciate it on the move...

Anyways, that MX3 sounds really nice, it's very light and 14.5h runtime is a looong time.
