Breaking the 4GB memory barrier -- possible for Win 7?

#1 Post by Springfield »

Here is an interesting article in Tech Republic about breaking the 4GB memory barrierfor 32-bit Windows 8.1

http://ct.techrepublic.com/clicks?t=130 ... PUBLIC&s=5

This exploits the Physical Address Extension (PAE) mode, not normally available on Windows desktops. There ere are some limitations including a max of 2 GB memory per process.

I'm wondering if this is also possible for 32-bit Windows 7? Anyone tried it?

windows 7 PAE kernal patch

Googling that has several hits to patches. Not sure how well it works. Will have to test it out.

Also found this.

"You used to be able to use PAE to see more than 4 GB of RAM with Windows XP but this option was disabled in Service Pack 2."

I am surprised I haven't seen this before.
