I just got a MC7700 Sierra Wireless branded Airprime for use in my CF-31J. I assumed that this was a GSM based card and would have a SIM card slot. But instead, I have an IMEI#, is it really CDMA?

What am I missing?

Huawei EM820U

Hey Rob, would it be ok to add the Huawei EM820U to the OP as officially working for CF-19 and CF-30 (pending testing on other models)? I never believed that all WWAN modules had to be specifically made for Toughbooks, and I have proved it. I think it's mostly the Gobi modules that are restricted by firmware to certain laptop models, but most others are not. There are still some modules that won't work on our Toughbooks due to some technical reasons such as the infamous pin 20. But still, I have purchased several unlocked modules that were pulled out of other laptop brands and had them working to some degree on my Toughbooks. The EM820U is the only one I have fully tested under Windows XP, Win7, Linux and is worthy of mention. I managed to get a few others recognized under Linux but lacked SIM cards and network access to fully test them, but were recognized by the BIOS and the OS.

Mobile Partner connection software including drivers for this WWAN module on Win7 and XP are here:

If your definition of 4G is HSPA+ 21Mbps, then yes. It's a AWS1700 (band 4) compatible module. In the states I believe T-mobile mostly uses it.

I ended up with it because I was desperately trying to use Videotron wireless services here in Quebec. It's also a quand band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 card so I can roam with ease.
