I had modded the thermal pads on mine, so I didn't really see a big jump. The over clock is done though software and must be done every boot. This program works for windows, mac and linux.

http://www.gmabooster.com/home.htm

When you start it up it will show you what your clock speed is currently set at.

I don't remember what mine was set at from the factory on the CF-29 as I had it swap it at boot.

If you are wanting more performance download the latest correct driver for your chipset and then look up a modding tutorial or video. It will show you how to go in and change all the settings to where you want it.

Right now I am playing Portal 1 on medium to high setting on a CF-30 Mk2 with X3100 graphics. I have done a lot of tweaks to windows 7 but haven't even done the video tweak yet. Trying to get everything how I want it with some new tweaks I haven't done before to see how they work. Then it will be time to drop in the SSD.

(CF-30FCS80AM) Mk2 Intel 965 chipset, x3100 graphics. There seems to be a lot you can do with these graphics but you got to tweak it a little.

I use to play HALO 1 all the time on my CF-28 Mk2, it played well but some of the colors were off. I could never get the chief from grey to green. It was hell to play muli-player, lol.

Thanks for the information :) I'll give that a try eventually, but right now time is at a premium and other things are taking precedence.

If you don't like it or your machine doesn't work well with it, you can uninstall it like it never happened. I try to softmod all my stuff like that for that reason.

I am still working with a experimental os, what I have seen in the virtual machine right now looks very good. When I get home from fire school in New Orleans I will be putting it on one of the CF-29's that I am selling to test it out on a older machine first. I am running it on a my CF-30, but have the virtual machine turned down to only use one core and 512 of ram and it screams in speed. Fill in more about it later.

I'm eagerly waiting for my new CF-19 mk4 (same model as Rob's) :D
I've already ordered 2x4GB Crucial PC10600.

while on that, I would want to know if all I need for wwan is the card itself, or i'll have to buy that board with the miniPCIe slot and dip switches, also.

That board comes with it. That is why they are considered "wwan ready".

And these models don't have the secret password that no one knows to unlock the WWAN! :)

Just use the GOBI unlock tool.

Where did you get yours from Gear6? :D :P

I thought so, but wasn't 100% sure about the wwan. Thanks for clearing that up.

The other good thing about the mk4 vs mk5, is that you can install a FPR and it would work (Alecgold knows this all too well).

Also I like the fact that it's 18W TDP vs 35W on the mk5, and that surely means lower heat, and probably better runtime, even though performance wise it's a different class.
