VERY important update with GOBI 1000 modems with AT&T! READ!

#1 Post by Rob »

Hey guys. This is directly from my inside info from Panasonic, and is VERY important that the patch be applied!

We have an important announcement to share regarding your Toughbook® mobile computers with embedded Gobi1000 modems, provisioned for the AT&T wireless-broadband network. Panasonic has been informed by AT&T Mobility that the carrier will soon enable the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) network feature, which allows for emergency-cell broadcast of SMS messages to end users. This is a feature that has been mandated by the FCC and Federal Government across the major US carriers.

Panasonic has been working closely with AT&T Mobility, and has discovered issues with the use of the Gobi1000 modem on the AT&T wireless network when the CMAS feature is on. This includes:

- The modem disconnects and reconnects intermittently from the network
- The modem resets automatically

Starting April 6, 2012, AT&T will enable the CMAS feature on its network in the following markets: New York City, Washington D.C., Portland, OR and Northern New Jersey, with continuing roll outs to additional U.S. Markets in the coming months.

In order to provide you with optimal service, Panasonic has worked closely with its partners to issue a downloadable solution for the Gobi1000 modem.

TOUGHBOOK MODELS AFFECTED:
All models supporting Gobi1000 modem with AT&T Network, on Windows® XP, Vista and 7 Operating Systems.
This includes:

- Toughbook 19mk2 and mk3
- Toughbook 30mk2 and mk3
- Toughbook 52mk2
- Toughbook T8mk1 and mk4
- Toughbook W8mk1
- Toughbook F8mk1
- Toughbook U1 mk1
- Toughbook H1mk1

RESOLUTION:
We strongly recommend that you run this update on all of your Gobi1000 devices, at your earliest convenience. This can be installed silently, and it will only take a few seconds per device to run this important fix.

- The issue is resolved by the “Gobi1000-Disable-CB” tool. This tool will change the necessary settings in the Gobi1000 module and provide support for the CMAS upgrade.
- The tool is available by downloading the file here: public_downloads/index.php?dir=Gobi%201 ... T%20Patch/]Index of ./Gobi 1000 ATT Patch/
- In order to execute the tool in silent install mode, please run “GOBI1000SilentWrapper.exe” file

By taking these steps, the potential connection issues associated with your Gobi1000 modem should be resolved. As always, Panasonic remains committed to providing you with superior customer service and support.
