Re: Dual Booting Strategy
I haven't found my ideal strategy yet. Dual-booting always leaves me wanting, when one of the partitions ends up not being big enough, or I want to have one or more of the environments on another machine and don't want to duplicate the setup effort. I haven't even tried to set up a dual-boot on a UE...

Re: SSDs run twice as hot as HHDs?
Interesting. I wonder which ones run at 25W. I have a Crucial 1TB in a small external USB3 enclosure, passively cooled. It gets warm but not hot, and runs fine from the 500mA (2.5W) that a USB2 port provides. Granted, it's a MLC drive, and probably not an "enterprise" model. If it's thrott...

Re: The ToughVLOG!
That basement is fabulous. They are rare where I live (water table is too high, soil too mushy). FWIW, the "pipes" that enclose the wiring coming from your power panel are known as EMT (electrical metallic tubing). Anyway, glad you got into your house. And thanks for all you do keeping the...

Re: Volkswagen’s New 300 MPG Car Not Allowed In America Beca
Well, it also could be because VW expects the base price to be $120,000 (!): http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2014-volkswagen-xl1-first-drive-review There's no way they would sell over here for that. But efficient cars are being sold in the US. There's the Tesla Model S, of course, and it is car ...

Re: And so I bought a G1 today...
Neither did I, unless it's on the bottom of the Motherboard.... Now that y'all say that, I think the unit may have come with 8 GB RAM. I've put RAM in so many machines lately I've lost track. Shawn, thanks for the pics of the guts of yours. I haven't been brave enough to totally disassemble mine ye...

Re: And so I bought a G1 today...
That _was_ a good deal. I got the camera in mine, too, but am not impressed with it (though the LED "flash" makes a decent flashlight). I think I'd get far more use out of the second USB port option or perhaps a LAN port (though I could use a USB to LAN adapter). Do you know what combinati...

Dude, you're my hero. A tool collector in an apartment
What are you using at the lake house for your G1 "dock" (and two external monitor connections)? It didn't look like the Panny dock, though maybe I just couldn't get a good look.

Re: It looks like Dell is trying to get in to the rugged lap
Well, that's all true, because people sacrifice other things as well in getting a fully-rugged machine: screen resolution, weight, $$$. My biggest need for computational horsepower over the last few years has been to run virtual machines*. It would have been nice back when I needed a hazardous-locat...

Re: FS: CF-30CTQAZBM
If you're referring to lack of TRIM support, it's not as bad as you might think. Most SSD vendors have "optimizer" or "toolkit" programs that will run TRIM on the drive for you on demand. Even Intel released a firmware update not too long ago adding TRIM support to their old Gen ...

Re: FS: CF-30CTQAZBM
Wow, my apologies. I don't get on here much and just now saw your response. I still have it, but after getting no responses for so long I just decided to keep it. I changed jobs and no longer have the immediate need for a hazloc rated machine (though if I saw a deal on one...). I also don't think th...
