GPS mapping and weather programs
Just wondering what GPS mapping/nav software other members use on their TBs. I am talking more for off-road use. I know there are lots of street and highway nav programs, but I am looking for something I can load digitized Topo maps into. At this point, I am looking at OziExplorer. Anyone have exper...

Re: Cheap Deals for Panasonic Toughbooks, Make me an offer.
It looks like the only unit with GPS is the truly ugly HTM50BM. Being new to Toughbooks, I had no idea what that was, but Google tells me it is a CF-29 Mk3 (retired Southwestern Bell Co. (SBC) field service unit). I would be interested but now I see "Shipping and sales conus". Let me know ...

Re: Value of CF-29 Mk4
Thanks for the reply Jeff. Yes, I think looking for a CF-30, or better, w/GPS is the way to go. I just do not have time for another project. I have already informed the seller I will not be buying it. No problem about the salesmanship. We all have to pay the bills. Ya, seen it. Wish I had that couch...

Re: Value of CF-29 Mk4
Thanks for the reply. Yes I would use the extras. The mount would go into my '78 Powerwagon and I usually have at least one spare battery for my laptops. The killer is that is is not set up for WWAN/GPS. From what I have seen here and on the Panasonic section of NBR it will cost as much, or more, th...

Value of CF-29 Mk4
There is a local ad for a CF-29LTQGZBM. It comes with 2 batteries, ac adapter, back lit KB installed, looks like restore discs and a vehicle mount that the seller says cost him $1800 new. He wants $500.00 for all. Unit looks to be in good shape. Is that a decent price. Being new to Toughbooks I real...

Re: goddamn winter!!!!! (warning: big rants)
Mother Nature has a sick sense of humor. Yesterday it was +12C in Calgary, today is suppose to get to +10C and tomorrow we get ~25cm (~10in.) of snow with a nice 30kph breeze. Instead of being pissed about it, I am going to have the Dodge diesel 1ton fueled up and the recovery strap in the box then ...

Re: quick question re buying toughbooks especially from cana
Have you checked the local Kijiji? I see various Toughbooks for sale in Galgary/Edmonton area. I recently picked up a nice CF-W5 with factory discs off the Calgary Kijiji.

Re: Thinkpads
Situation has probably been solved, but here is my two cents. T61 models w/Nvidia GPUs should be avoided. They are prone to GPU failure due to improper soldering of the GPU legs to the PCB. Depends on what his usage will be as to which of the other models would be best.
