How do I install the EC software?

I'm want to up grade the BIOS but am told I must also upgrade the EC software and have no idea if it a Windows app or if it is something like the BIOS and must be install using a floppy. Any guidiance appreciated...

Just an update on the problem using two comm ports: Turned out I had a printer installed and had configured it to use COM1. When the system booted it grabbed COM1 for the printer. Thanks for the response. I just want to use the external PCMCIA slot. It would be cool but too much trouble to try and use the internal m-pci slot. The PCMCIA card that I'm trying to use works on the CF-17 when I run it under win98, so I sure it's neither the wrong type of card nor a bad card. WIN20...
