Re: Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

Here is a great writeup. It tells you how to realign a ssd to 4k after cloning using Windows own utilities. http://www.ssdfreaks.com/content/664/how-to-clone-hdd-to-ssd-with-windows-7s-own-software I'm sure you guys already know this, but I found this handy tool to check alignment. http://us.hardwa...

Re: Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

Thanks, Shawn, for the tip. I'll make sure prior to selecting clone software that it offers 4K realignment.

Best regards,
John

Re: Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

Thanks, Springfield. I'm thinking of using EaseUS Free as it offers a cloning feature in the free version. I'm not a techie, just someone attempting to get more life out of my trusty 74. I'll check to see if EaseUS offers the 4K Partition Alignment before proceeding. I'm not trying to cheap out on d...

Re: Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

Thanks, Jeff the Saddlemaker, for the configurator info. I should have know that.

Say, advice on this cloning vs. using something like Paragon software disk imaging backup?

John

Re: Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

Thanks, mklym.

I suppose it's fine to proceed in getting the Crucial 500 SATA drive then.

Any thoughts on cloning vs. using disk imaging like Paragon Software? (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/ )

Move from Toshiba HDD to a SSD

First off, I want to express my humble gratitude to the toughbooktalk brain trust for their recent advice. I joined this forum as a result of Rob's suggestion after our chat concerning the migration from XP to Win7. It certainly has been eye opening. Anyway, now that Win7 is out of the way, I'd like...

Re: SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM

Again, thanks for the advice. I just got off a chat with Crucial who said the hard drive is also PATA and I'll need to get an adapter before proceeding with a SATA SSD. I'll bet this topic has already been covered somewhere on the forum.

Re: Daylight Viewable Displays

What's the Model #? --> CF-74GCDEKBM Meanwhile the old configurator states 460 for all. If you want bright see if Teo (ohlip) can help with his led upgrade. My CF-52 LEDGUNTEO :) will melt glasses. Running at 1/3 most of the time. 8) I believe a 74 with a single led strip would impress you. I don't...

Re: SATA 2nd HDD caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM

Thank you, Shawn. It probably makes better sense to image the Toshiba spinner and copy the image onto a Crucial M500 SSD. I've used Paragon in the past and it has worked out fine. Though, I don't know if it will puke using two different drive types during the conversion. I just thought it might be w...
